it's started: Mississippi One Step Closer to Criminalizing Abortion

http://lawprofessors.typepad.com/law_librarian_blog/2006/03/mississippi_mov.html

Following the example set by South Dakota last week as reported here and here, on Tuesday, the Mississippi House Public Health Committee passed an anti-abortion bill that would allow abortion only to save a women's life. The bill does not include an exception for rape or incest cases.

The measure came as a surprise. It was accepted in Committee as a substitution amendent to S.B. 2922, which originally required abortion practitioners to allow women considering an abortion to see an ultrasound of their unborn child beforehand. The Mississippi House is expected to vote on the S.B.2992 next week and it would then go to the Senate. The AP is reporting that Mississippi Govenor Haley Barbour is inclined to sign the bill.

woman hater Barbour said he'd likely sign the bill

1. Ok, I need to know
where I can find information about the types of pregnancies where the mother might live but will have irreversible health problems (ie, sterility) if she can't abort. I need to know the condition where the fetus often dies in the womb - and whether this law would make it illegal to remove the dead fetus. I need to know some stats on victims of rape/incest and what happens to them and their unwanted children.

Then I think all this information should be published here in one place where we can all get it and then use it in LTTE to papers in MS and SD and other states where anti-choice legislation might happen.

3. A dead fetus isn't an abortion
In the case of a dead fetus or an incomplete misscarriage the D&C is performed as in an abortion but the procedure itself is just a D&C not an abortion.

I wouldn't doubt some idiotic right winger would love to force a woman to carry a dead fetus until it kills her just in case it's the next coming of some mythic son of God.

An ectopic pregnancy can kill the mother so it would likely allow her to carry out an abortion no matter what the state whackos say.

The part that really pisses me off is the refusal to allow a girl to get an abortion if she was raped or is pregnant through incest.

You might want to see if Planned Parenthood has information on this.

5. This entire anti-choice thing has been, all along, a way
to make abortions available to rich GOP women, who have the means to travel to a blue state, and not to poor women. More race and class warfare from the GOP, masquerading as morality.
