They knew full well what the President said the day he said it and they had the tapes from the briefing the day it was shot. Something smells. Either the entire media is incompetent or they are covering for Bush for something else.

3. I just heard it reported that the tapes were part of the documents that
Congress was demanding from the WH, and was just turned over to the committee... so i guess the AP got the copies at the same time?

on this one, it appears (so far) that the media (well, let's just say the low ranking reporters) maybe innoncent this time... maybe.

4. Keith said they the media, got the tapes the day it was shot and it
took an AP reporter digging through it to come up with it.

5. I heard it that way too....but then the media is known for being lazy!
I think they had the tape, but probably never bothered to look at it....till now. Probably some Intern was looking for somekind of angle for a story and "discovered" it.....or something!

Hell, these days, who knows!

8. I can totally buy that..
.... I think half the reason the "news" media is so lousy is that

1) it has gone from being a loss center (a public service if you will) to a profit center. Looking at tapes and trying to investigate ANYTHING costs money. Why spend it when your sole raison d-etre is to make a profit.

2) the Republicans dovetail quite nicely into this scenario, providing the media will all sorts of canned productions that are FREE. FREE CONTENT, what a concept.

6. I think the media has been too scared up until now to.....
....release anything bad about the boy king. So they just sat on all this stuff AND A WHOLE LOT MORE waiting to see if the dams would break. Now thatthe gate has been opened watch for even more because I think the media is going to try time their release of Bush screw ups to do the most damage before November.

7. Are the powers that be getting ready to dump the chimp?
I'd originally thought that this was a little Brownie payback deal but if these tapes have been available throughout the time that debate was raging about what did the president know and when did the know it--then it seems more likely that they were just too hot to be released at the time.

What a difference a few months make. Iraq's about ready to break out in civil war, Cheney just shot a guy and Bush's little Dubai deal is waking up all the anti free trade feelings that they've worked so hard to bury.

I'm thinking that they are ready to cut their losses. Cheney'll go first--look for a link to the Dubai deal. Chimp will be forced to accept someone halfway sane as Veep--then the Republicans will turn on him like they did Nixon and tell him to get on that big black helicopter and head on back to Crawford.

Or maybe I've just got my tinfoil beret on a little too tight.
