Did anyone just see Sen Kyl: Bill to open schools to Military Recruiters
Sen. Kyl was just on the Senate floor talking about how military recruiters are being discrimintated against and he wants to make sure that the recruiters get the first crack at our kids before they do foolish things like sign to go to college. He hit all the RW points about how 'them lubruls' are preventing our kids from learning about the glories of an all expense paid trip to Iraq and he is not going to stand for it anymore. Sigh!

Does any have a bill number for what he submitted or any other information?

1. Recruiters don't need to get into schools
to do their jobs. If kyl wants to use the retail outlet then open malls in schools. Its a ludicrous idea. If a student wants to join the military nothing is stopping him/her from doing so. Such a shame that "conservatives" have to evangelize on military service because obviously the natural course isn't working. Wonder why?

2. They should go to the private schools.
I'm sure they'll be welcomed with open arms.

3. Good point! Are private schools going to be open to recruiters?
What if they have any students on them godawful vouchers?

How about religious schools?

4. They're taking government money, so they should also take the
recruiters.

6. It's news to me that they're being kept out of schools.
They set up right in my son's public high school's lunch room.

I learned this from my son, since the school neglected to inform the parents.

7. I wish they'd TRY it with my son ...
He would give them an earful they'd not soon forget! He goes through the daily mail, tossing out one-liners along with the recruiting junk that comes in.

8. Recruiters
The "No Child Left Behind Act" has specific language that says federal funding for the entire school district will be denied if one school in the district denies access to military recruiters. THe schools have no choice but to let the recruiters into the school. I have no idea what Senator Kyle is bitching about. You can request that your children be kept out of a database that the schools are required to give to the recruiters. This is also because of the no child left behind act. I do know that the Harvard Law School is currently involved in a federal lawsuit over recruiters on campus. Public High Schools in America have no such leverage.
