dnc? dlc? dccc?
Edited on Sun Feb-19-06 09:12 PM by ellenfl
can y'all summarize and/or give me opinions on these and any other democrat organizations? i could google them but that wouldn't give me the insight you guys can. i'm not crazy about the dlc and only half crazy about the dnc and know nothing about the dccc. any illumination would be appreciated.

i ask this because i got a letter from the florida democrat party asking for $ to help re-elect bill nelson . . . which i am not inclined to support.

1. You're not inclined to support?
His opposition is Katharine Harris. At least, I think she is. If it were a choice between K. Harris and anyone else, my money is on anyone else. And it is a simple choice.

8. I feel your pain, but sadly, the American political system is
a "two party must" system. I.E. in 99% of elections you must vote for one of the two major parties, or else you help the candidate you least like.

Since Nelson is an incumbent you are unlikely to have another Democrat to vote for, at least in the general election in November. By all means support someone else in the primary, if you find someone wh is more to your liking. But in November the choice for you will be Bill Nelson or Katherine Harris. If you don't vote for Bill Nelson, then you cast your ballot for Katherine Harris, even if you actually stayed home, or voted third party, or wrote someone in.

Bill Nelson or Katherine Harris. That's your choice. If you don't like it, work to change our electoral system. But you won't get that done in time for November 2006.

Bill Nelson or Katherine Harris. Which one are you going to pick?

2. In Brief, Ma'am
The D.N.C. is the Democratic National Committee: it is the organ of national leadership of the Party.

The D.C.C.C. is the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committe: it is the organ of the Party charged with promoting success nationally in races for the House of Representatives.

There is also a D.S.C.C., the Semocratic Senate Campaign Committee, charged with the same task relating to the Senate races.

Each state has a state committee, in charge of Party operations in that state, and similarly down through county and smaller jurisdictions.

Each candidate, also, will have hsi or her own organization.

The D.L.C. is the Democratic Leadership Council. This is not in any way a Party organ, but a private grouping on "think tank" lines. Its position is that the Party needs to cultivate center and even center-right voters to acheieve decisive electoral success. A number od Democratic Party officeholders have joined it, but there is no clear ideological identity among them, viewed in terms of other Party factions. Some seem to consider it an extraordinary engine of covert evil, but evidence for those charges is, in my view, sadly lacking.

6. thanks, that helps a lot.
as much as i like dean, i am not thrilled with the dnc, dlc and now, i guess, the dccc. i think i will stick to donating to individual candidates.

3. Do You Realize That You Sound Like A Rethug?
Using the phrases "democrat organizations instead of "democratic organizations". You will not say "republic organizations" - will you? I hate to be correcting this - but it galls me to read it here in DU!

Democratic Party.

The party is Democratic, the members are Democrats.

7. So.. you plan to support Katherine Harris ??!

BTW - please explain the problem you have with the DCCC ?? They are royally kicking ass in fundraising, completely blowing their Rethug counterparts out of the water.

Are you a Harris supporter?

Edited on Mon Feb-20-06 10:27 PM by ellenfl
are you saying that if i lived in connecticut i should vote for lieberman because he's a dem? some of these guys are republicans in dem clothing. i hope i have another choice but i will vote the party line if i have to, which is, btw, the only reason that i am a democrat. i was registered independent for years but changed so i could vote in the primaries.

there was actually a time when i would have voted for mccain. of course, i can't now that shrub has despoiled him.
