Sat on the campaign trail - Dean draws 1400 People - Kerry draws 250
More than 1,400 people came to see Dean in Seattle on Saturday, lining up around a city block to get into his town hall meeting on health care. They raucously applauded his argument that Kerry is the "lesser of two evils" when compared to President Bush.

But the primary has not measured up to the prime-time spotlight party leaders envisioned, even after Saturday's union-hall rally in New Castle for Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., which drew more than 250 people.

1. "The largest gathering of the Delaware campaign so far was
...Friday night at a rally in New Castle organized quickly after the New Hampshire voting for Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass."

3. this is nice to hear
"Bayard said campaign workers said they have noticed that many of the people volunteering to help this year are middle-age or older - people like former Green Beret Darrell Davis of Wilmington.

Davis, 46, was a registered Republican in the military and supported the war in Afghanistan and Iraq. But he did not like how Bush sold the war in Iraq and now is part of Kerry's "Veterans Brigade" in Delaware.

"I knock on doors, work the phones, whatever they need me to do," Davis said."

15. New Castle has a population of 5,131 and a small union hall.

Seattle, OTOH, is a bit bigger.

Nice try, isbister.

5. Edwards in Springfield MO
John Edwards drew a crowd of more than 1000 people elbow-to-elbow in a four-story atrium in Springfield MO--the most conservative city in Missouri (if not the nation) and they had to turn people away due to fire code stuff. "I wish there primary day was tonite and we could all go vote after we get outta here" -Johnny Edwards

14. Well, by long division...
Edited on Sun Feb-01-04 08:04 AM by MarkTwain
... the point is the following:

Doctor Dean captured 0.248 % of the population.

Whereas, Senator Kerry captured 5.142 % of the population.

Let's see, since this thread seems to be predicated upon a "numbers" game, this means that ....

... the Senator enjoyed 20.73 times MORE support than Doctor Dean.

Hmmmmmm. Denial runs not only deep but deceptive as well, does it not?

7. Using the lesser of two evils line....
I'm sorry but someone who wants the democratic presidential nomination, using the ridiculous green party mantra on fellow democrats loses my respect. If he genuinely believes that Kerry is "evil" then that is pathetic.

8. Amen, Amen, Amen!

And Amen Again! Dean trashes fellow Dems far too much. That's why his "negatives" are always high. Someone had a thread earlier that asked why do people "hate" Howard Dean. . . "Hate" is a strong word, but a lot of us dislike the arrogant little liar.

10. Kerry isn't evil.
He's weak. How many times do I have to say this?

Yeah, he's a great guy. Well read and "nuanced." But the guy is a politician's politician- he's got no guts, because he has too much to lose. He's proved repeatedly over the last two years that he isn't a leader. Why the hell would anyone want to get behind this guy? People are only voting for him, with a few exceptions, because the media tells them that Kerry has the best chance against Bush (which isn't even true) and totally glosses over his faults.

250 people. Go Kerry.

13. most people will
Edited on Sun Feb-01-04 07:49 AM by slim
no matter who the nominee is people are going to come out this November in numbers that haven't been seen in a long time(if ever) because of what happend in the 2000 election and in the 3+ years since. People saw in 2000 just how important there vote can be, and the media hype going into election day will be unparalleled. The only people who won't vote this November are the people who won't vote during their entire lives.

11. well of course!

I mean, I'd go see Dean too despite being a Kerry supporter from Day 1.

Everyone knows that it may very well be the last time they ever see Dean campaign in person. Kerry will probably be around a lot longer, so there's no urgency there.

16. Dr. Dean is no Dem.
Real Democrats don't call other Democrats "Republican" or "the lesser of two evils."

Howard Dean still has a lot to learn about being a man, as well.

the union hall is approximately 15 minutes from my home. I had to work and could not go. It isn't that large. As a matter of fact - Delaware is the Small Miracle! Wait until Tuesday!
