This never fails to rile me: Bushco and the Have Cake, Eat It Too Syndrome

So Bush says this morning that terrorists are on the run, have troubles getting funding, have lost their base of operations, we've killed many of their leaders, and on and on. So we're winning seems to be the message today.

Yet, meanwhile...

Scotty says this afternoon that we are facing a determined enemy who is intent on striking us again. That we must be on guard against this world wide threat, must use all the tools at our disposal to defeat the enemy. And on and on. So we're at the brink of disaster seems to be the simultaneous message.

Burns me up to no end.

(That and the we can't talk about an ongoing investigation - unless there's a point about the ongoing investigation we want to talk about. But that's another issue.)

Mr. Bush quotes statistics that show the deficit becoming smaller in the future. These statistics are based on the tax cuts expiring in a few years.

Mr. Bush is pressing Congress to make the tax cuts permanent.
