King Funeral: Hit this Poll G*ddammit!!
Are Politically Charged Comments Appropriate at Corretta Scott King's funeral?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11221198/

I don't normally pimp polls, but I'm sick of this shit. Sick to death of it.

How dare these Repugnant morons tell any mourners how to grieve? HOW DARE THEY?

Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 08:27 PM by katinmn
Guess the righties see another opportunity to accuse liberals of "politicizing" a memorial service of one of their own.

If the neocons don't like to hear it, why don't they just stay away?

edit: bad language

Bush agenda criticized
The funeral at times turned political, with some speakers decrying the war in Iraq, the Bush administration’s eavesdropping program, and the sluggish response to Hurricane Katrina in mostly black New Orleans.

The Rev. Joseph Lowery, who co-founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference with Martin Luther King Jr., drew a roaring standing ovation when he said: “For war, billions more, but no more for the poor” — a takeoff on a line from a Stevie Wonder song. The comment drew head shakes from Bush and his father as they sat behind the pulpit.

The lavish service stood in sharp contrast to the 1968 funeral for King’s husband. President Lyndon B. Johnson did not attend those services, which were held in the much smaller and older Ebenezer Church in Atlanta, where King had preached.

74. All you need to remember is this:
Can you imagine, if MLK was still alive today, after all that has happened (and NOT happened) with the cicil rights movement in the US, what HIS eulogy would have sounded like? Do you think he would have made political statements? Do you think those statements would have been impassioned?

Republicans have no right to tell people what is correct and not coorect at public funerals such as this one. Coretta Scott King's life was a living political statement in itself... so was Wellstone's, for that matter. These were appropriate statements to have been made at her funeral, as were the ones made at Wellstone's. The only reasone the Republicans are pissing and moaning over it is because they were harpooned. If it had been the Democrats that had been lambasted (wait until Zell's funeral), there would not be this outcry. And, I'll bet, MSNBC would never have asked that polling question afterward, either.

80. They invited a bunch of politicians and televised it
Big surprise that it got "political."

I think chimpy was politicizing it by being there... you know, trying to suck up his 2% black approval rating by pretending to care. Why doesn't anyone find fault with that? Oh, that's right. For the same reason that Republicans don't play politics and aren't partisan.
