Poll question: What was Gonzales' main talking point of the day?
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 12:17 AM by Sparkly
He repeated at least three things over and over:

1. "These are hard questions!" All too similar to "It's hard work," made classic by Chimpy in the first debate with Kerry. Gonzales noted "these are hard questions" several times today.

2. "We're not talking about that here." In other words, HE'S not talking about that -- "that" being domestic surveillance of American citizens without warrants. HE was only talking about "international" communications, and when it came to domestic spying, he repeatedly said, "We're not talking about that."

3. "I'm not going to answer questions about operations." This was used to avoid answering even point-blank invitations to state that they are not or have not tapped US-US phone calls, that they'd rule out opening first class mail between US citizens, etc...(To which Leahy said at one point, paraphrasing -- "Oh that's right, I forgot -- you can't answer anything that's actually relevant here!")

Which will or should be remembered as the main "classic" of today's hearing?

1. What about the other operations?
Did anybody catch the part about:

"I will not discuss operational details about ongoing operations."

Did this part bother anyone else?

4. I thought it was just a way of lumping this in with other operations
as if it were all normal and commonplace, akin to other, legal classified "operations."

2. Other: It's legal because we said it was legal and we can't talk about it.

on edit: I never expected him to be anything other than entirely full of sh*t, which is why I wanted to slap it out of him.

8. If I were to call you and my call is "rerouted" through India,is
that considered an international call and subject to spying?

10. You bet it is.
That is exactly how they plan to get many of these wiretaps in place. Even going through Canada or Mexico (which is how a lot of telecommunication lines run) would qualify under this spying program.

12. I went to sleep...but thanks for the reply..so we are being rerouted
into Gitmo. With KBR dusting off America's concentration camps what are we to expect? Martial Law is just 1 attack away or even a financial collapse could do it..but would the bush crime family do it? HELL YES,,
SCARY....
