CNN disappoints again.

Most of the day CNN has been referring to a Washington Post article and suggests only 10 people were spied on.

The real store is 5000 people were spied on (warrentless) and of those only 10 'aroused enough suspicion during warrantless eavesdropping to justify interception of their domestic calls'.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/02/04/AR2006020401373_pf.html

Is that the talking point of the week? Did I miss it? 'only a few people were spied on'

1. CNN and the Post (Pravda) lie again!
Edited on Mon Feb-06-06 12:50 AM by depakid
Big surprise.

As Paul Krugman puts it, there's an epidemic of lying about policy in this country- straight up looking in your eyes and make a false statement of fact- that one knows is absolutely not true.

And the Post & CNN are two of the biggest offenders.

2. 5000 isn't even the tip of the ice berg
I'm positive when all is said and done it will be only 10 that weren't spyed on. Everyone else in the USA have been, because of the way they did the wire taps, key words were triggers.

4. it was just ONE teeny-weeny lie about a BJ to get Clinton
...1 illegal spying incident, 100,000 illegal spying incidents..
most important word I think is "illegal".
I can't see how this illegality can be left as a precedent - IMO
it won't be.

5. I heard it as: "less than 10"
That was on CNN Headline News when I got up this afternoon.

"Less than ten" is a big difference from Ten. I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be two or three suspects resulting in no arrests.

If this program met with success Buxh would be parading the "terrorists" in the news on a daily basis. Especially considering his approval rating of late.

6. Most of the media are lying about our objection
to the fact that Bush isn't going to the courts for warrants.

Most of us can recognize the need for listening with first priority placed on any/all foreign originated calls and then the next priority placed upon the U.S. citizens receiving *certain* foreign calls culled from that first group of calls. But there is absolutely no reason for any of that to go forward without the supervision of the Courts. That's what is SO TROUBLING, not just that they are doing this, but that they are doing it without WARRANTS.

The Media characterizes it as an objection to surveillance in general rather than as an objection to the lack of warrants, because they want to discredit those who object.

8. Just stop watching the corporate media
Two reasons:
1. You'll be surprised at how little you end up missing it.
2. You'll help hasten corporate media's demise

18. CNN = Conventional News Network
Whatever the White House releases as talking points, CNN reports it as gospel.

They're living proof that when you don't stand for anything, you sink like a rock.
