Kerry aides feel Edwards is their greatest threat.
Edited on Sat Jan-31-04 08:33 PM by uconnyc
"Even though Mr. Kerry was not planning to return here (South Carolina), he ratcheted up his advertising in South Carolina in an effort to beat Mr. Edwards and effectively end the candidacy of the man who Mr. Kerry's aides see as the greatest threat. And he is spending heavily in Oklahoma, trying to prevent General Clark from winning there and thus having a reason to stay in the race."

Nice to read this as I get a really annoyed with all the Clarkies who think Edwards is a fringe candidate and that their candidate is actually doing better than JRE. You guys skipped Iowa for NH and still could not beat JRE by more than a 1,000 votes.

FYI - I'm not anti-Clark, he is my second choice. Just anti Clark snobbish supporters.

1. That's a coincidence: I bet that Rove feels the same way
about Edwards. Too bad the DNC apparently does not agree.

2. I agree that Edwards is the biggest threat to Kerry
and I'm glad they haven't gotten too negative on each other because I am hoping for Kerry/Edwards.

3. Yep.
He's still the biggest secret of the field.

By the way, the margin in New Hampshire was 839 votes, I think.

It's tricky for Kerry, too: if he fights too hard in SC and still loses, it could be a bit of a black eye.

4. AP reports the same thing:
"Edwards acknowledges that he must win South Carolina, the state where he was born. The first-term North Carolina senator hopes to emerge as Kerry's singular rival, which he would certainly do by winning Oklahoma and exceeding expectations in Missouri, New Mexico and Delaware. He has matched Kerry ad-for-ad in key states. Kerry advisers see Edwards as their biggest threat."

6. Thanks for that, uconnyc.
So, IF this happens, then the criteria for nomintion could become, "Who can best beat bush?", without the media applied filter that tries to make 'Kerry is most electable' into a truism???

I think that is our best chance.
