Bush’s Flights of Fancy Stay on Earth
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 10:07 AM by The Whiskey Priest
For the past three years Bush has offered some plan in order to prove that he is a deep thinker and a futurist, someone who can see those things that are obscure to most of us. This year he called for a crash program to find an alternative to petroleum. Laudable project. Of course, the republicans will not fund the president’s rhetoric.

The same happened last year, Bush’s writers included his grand thought on hydrogen cars. The year before that during the SOTU, Bush called for us to go to Mars. I wondered at the time if he knew something the rest of didn’t and maybe he was giving us a heads-up on packing. Both of those grand visions died from lack of funding by the republicans. It is hard to head off to some distant planet when you are sacking up and handing out money to the rich here on earth.

Well, blessing as scarce these days of republican rule, so let us be thankful that Bush didn’t offer something more aggressive, say like taking on the Klingons for Section 15 of Deep Space. Now that would really be grand plan for him not to plan on funding.

1. Same Old, Same Old...
He hasn't learned, he hasn't changed. He wants to make his "Tax Eliminations" for the Wealthy even bigger and more permanent. He still wants to destroy the Social Security program (one of the few things the government even begins to get right--with all it's flaws, and I don't mean the so-called problems Bushling does, I mean that it's too limited and too stingy, but that would be hard to fix and we should be grateful for any insurance between ourselves and homelessness). He's still bent on conquest, and so on.

But ol' Rove's a clever one. He steals one of the Democrat's "non-ideas", that of energy independence and claims it as his own, all the while knowing that it's a sure bet that none of his fellow Republican elected criminals would even consider actually implementing such a thing. Secretly, he himself would be the first to try every conceivable trick to sabotage such an effort if it ever were picked up as 'real' policy--after all, that might tend to cut into the obscene profits being made by the oil companies. They'd have a hard time making $10 Billion dollars a year (that was the recent record profits by... I think it was Exxon/Mobil--10 with a capital B, -illion) in PROFITs if people had economical energy saving alternatives. So, now the Democrats will be the ones made out to be copycats if they mention alternative energy. It's just so absurd that it would work that way.

Somehow, though, despite everything, I don't thing Shrub has really convinced anyone that he's a "deep thinker", but then again, that's just how they like to think of him--as an accessible, human, good-ol boy. Few things could be further from the truth, but then again, that's in the realm of "Reality"--a place that few Republicans have any familiarity with.

Because someone has to say it.

How's that program to eliminate steroid use in pro sports coming, Georgie?
