What are the chances of a deadlocked convention? What's the
procedure if none of the candidates have 50% of the delegates? I'm not really clear on what happens.

1. No chance, IMO.
The DNC (Dem establishment) will never allow that. I suspect the whole nominating process will be over with 10 days from now, or fewer.

BTW, this is not how I wanted it to be, but I figured it would happen.

2. I think the odds are pretty high
At least 50-50

The way it works is that there is a vote, and the delegates vote for the candidate to which they are "pledged" (either they were elected as delegates for that candidate, or they are a "super delegate" who has pledged themself to a candidate). If none of the candidates gets more than 50%, then the delegates are released from their candidate and are now free to vote for whichever candidate they choose. This tends to favor the party insiders who have acces to govt jobs and appointments.

3. correct
Good answer. I agree that there is a good chance this will happen. It isn't necessarily a bad thing. We have four good choices: Clark, Dean, Edwards, and Kerry. What order they are in is important, but I think that if we can cut the negative stuff, and think in terms of the ticket to knock the stuffings out of bush, we will spank him. I'd like to see as many of these people in the new administration as possible.

4. I agree.....if egos will allow.
I think each candidate has unique strengths and skills that could benefit this country and contribute to the hard work of reversing the course of this country's direction. This election will require a united party to undo the 40 year drift of this country.
