I've been out sick for a while, and I come back and see posts in DU of all places, talking about the "loonie left" of our party.

That's Rush Limbaugh speak, folks.

The only people who call the left fringe of our party the "loonie left" are Bushbots and dittoheads. I expect to see that kind of stuff when I'm reading Free Republick or Liberty Post, but here?

When we use their terminology and adopt their slang, they've won and we've lost. Like being afraid to call yourself a "liberal". George Washington said he was "liberal".

There is no Loonie Left. There is an insane, rich fat stooge who makes up crap terms like that for his dittohead followers to use. It ought to be a foreign language here.

4. The party conservatives know their leadership days are

numbered because everybody knows that continuing to lurch to the right and appease the GOP will only drive us farther and farther out of power, as though such a thing were possible. They still haven't come to terms with the fact that they're the problem, not the solution, though.

and while I can get pretty irate with them I don't consider them "loony." The only people I think are loony are those who put political calculation ahead of fact based analysis. Example: "It may be impossible to independently verify electronically recorded votes, but advocating for accountable voting systems implies that those in power favor unaccountable voting systems, so in the interest of civility I will stick my head up my ass." Or "Alito is a horrible choice for supreme court, but in the interest of compromise I will only symbolically oppose him, even though I know that in reality I'm not doing jack-shit.

That's loony. Disagreeing over whether its moral to eat meat is a matter of opinion.

She was a real wingnut of the nth degree who believes in the Rapture and all that nonsense. One day last year, I left an article on her desk. I haven't heard her talk about the "Loony Left" ever since.

- Iraq invasion was going ahead no matter what
- Iraq invasion started several months before the official date with increased air sorties/strafing in the no-fly zones
- there were no WMD
- there would urban warfare (it would not be a "cakewalk")
- torture at Guantanamo/Abu Ghraib
- "extraordinary renditions"
- Jessica Lynch and Pat Tillman stories not what they seemed
- bin Laden would pop up before the Nov '04 election as the "October Surprise"
