Help me dispel this latest freeper spin on domestic spying
Now they're saying that the FISA court was too slow in dealing with requests for wiretaps, and they even claim the 9-11 Commission brought this up (they love to use the 9-11 commission as a crutch). I know this is pure bullshit, but not quite sure how exactly to counter these arguements.

1. For G*d's sake make them prove their assertion!
I don't see why you should have to debunk pure BS.

Warrants can be issued RETROACTIVELY, therefore negating ANY time factor.

6. Shit - thanks, I knew it was something easy like that
For some reason when I heard that, I had a brain fart. I completely forgot about the retroactive warrants.

Thanks guys. Once again, DU comes to the rescue! :toast:

2. being able to spy
and then 3 days latter ask for a warrant is to slow? and I heard ..in some cases they where allowed to wait 2 wks. There is only one reason to skip a warrent..you are spying on someone you are not supposed to be spying on. They can spin away they are trying to get a jump on public opinion they know they are in trouble on this one.

3. I'm not sure but, I think that it is within FISA law
to spy and retroactively get permission- within 72 hrs.

So, there is no excuse NOT to go thru the courts!

4. 5 a day is too slow it seems.
http://www.epic.org/privacy/wiretap/stats/fisa_stats.html

2004: 1758 requested 1754 approved.

The only reason they didn't go to the FISA courts is because they couldn't qualify for a warrant as they had no suspects. Their domestic monitoring program uses the Echelon system developed by the NSA and that system snoops on everyone. You cannot get a warrant to wiretap 'everyone'.

5. Point out that they should have tried to get a court order on the guys
that were taking Jumbo Jet Flying Lessons in Florida, that the FBI agent reported, but was smacked down because it was interfering with the FBI's investigation into "porn bombs" and missing W keys on keyboards and a Senator's affair . . .

8. The fisa court wasn't too slow.......
How quick is immediately? that's how fast the NSA could eavesdrop on anyone. They had 72 hours to then get a fisa warrant retroactively.

Their problem is the fisa court would not have authorized spying on political opponents. THAT's why the chimp went around, evaded, broke, disregarded and ignored THE LAW.

Ask him how he knows he or anyone else (non Al Qaida) hasn't been spied upon. Put the burden of proof on him. Let him look shit up.

BTW, The Registry of Motor Vehicles is too slow in dealing with requests for licenses, by their logic, that's justification to not even bother to get one.

9. They won't "look it up"
I'll guarantee you that the imbecille will either:

(1) INSIST that your facts are "bullshit", and that you have a "leftist agenda" for supporting said facts

(2) Run away from the argument, never to be heard from again when confronted with the facts (since they will NEVER admit that they're wrong)

(3) Attack the messenger (either you, or "those leftists"), even if the attack has nothing to do with the argument (something like "Your mother would turn over in her grave if she knew what a traitor you are")

Send me a link if you want back-up. I'm so fucking pissed today, I'll argue with anyone!
