Poll question: Who is the most liberal --==*MAJOR*==-- candidate?
Edited on Sat Jan-31-04 05:12 PM by jpgray
edit: KUCINICH AND SHARPTON ARE MORE LIBERAL THAN THE MAJOR CANDIDATES. INCLUDING THEM IN THIS POLL WOULD BE MEANINGLESS BECAUSE IT WOULD ONLY SHOW WHO'S IGNORANT OR PARTISAN ENOUGH NOT TO VOTE FOR EITHER. THAT IS ALL. THIS IS NOT SOME ENDORSEMENT OF THE VAPID AND IDIOTIC NYT ARTICLE.

This only includes the top 4 polling candidates.

1. The poll is meaningless unless you include Kucinich.

5. Kucinich is indisputably the most liberal candidate
So putting him in the polls wouldn't show much, except that morons would still vote for their own candidates.

7. Again, Kucinich is indisputably the most liberal candidate
I don't need a poll to tell me that.

8. Kucinich is indisputably the most liberal candidate
Aside from identifying the idiots who vote for their own guy no matter what, the poll would tell me nothing.

22. 2/2 in the race so far, leading in a head-to-head vote against
Bush nationally, and 5% write in by Republicans in NH.

Meanwhile the Dean campaign rumbles along with single lugnuts holding each wheel on.

10. I thought the reason these are majors is because they aren't "liberals"

They can all be counted on not to rock the boat and implement current US foreign policies.

They all believe they can do a better job of running the crusade and imposing America's will on its properties around the world than bush.

They all make very impressive speeches that say the same thing in slightly different ways.

They all wear a lot of gray.

13. umm, which one is the most like a turnip? Sorry, it is a non-question

None of them is "liberal," that is why they are all considered "electable."

A better question would be "which one is easiest to distinguish from the others in a crowd of oil executives?"

They are essentially interchangeable. Maybe they should consider joining forces and running as a group.

34. Mm... Kucinich. Obviously you endorse the NYT article
This much is clear from your exclusion of Kucinich and Sharpton. Also you must want a flame war. Clearly your evil, biased turnip polls will be the death of your reputation here at DU.

I could start spouting the Republican party line but it wouldn't make me into a conservative.

36. Positions are promises
and I do believe that a well thought out position/promise is very good. However, for me, a candidate's positions/promises alone are not enough. I have yet to reach that level of trust with any politician that is in the middle of running for office.

Also, the hope or dream of a candidate may meet a different reality once he/she has gained the office whether they like it or not.

17. How can Clark be considered? He has no recorded votes on
anything. Sorta like Dean saying he's anti-war without having to vote on it when he has real constituents to be accountable to.

38. So, Clark is a Republican..
when he's praising Bush & Blair, but not a Democrat when he's attacking Bush and the MIC?

He thinks like a liberal, and most of his positions are liberal. I wish I had Dean, Edwards or Kerry's positions to compare to his, but those 3 either failed to give their positions (Kerery, Dean) or didn't answer the majority of the questions (Edwards).

24. Then how can Kerry be considered when he comes from Mass.
the most liberal state in the country. If he was a senator in Alabama do you think Kerry the "which way the wind blows" candidate would have the same liberal voting record? NO. Kerry has no conviction.

23. I voted Clark, but...
I take exception to 1) the all caps typing (shouting) and 2) the in effect same nullifying thrift towards Kucinich and Sharpton that I also denounced in another thread about the NYT's shameless and disgusting call to shun them in public debate - as if they are the arbiter for the Vox Populi...

This is still a democracy!

I can / could understand a rationale of a poll that seeks to find out support for the candidates that seem to have the "best" fighting chance in November, but calling supporters of the "non-major" candidates "ignorant" is simply unacceptable.

I think you should edit that out.

"whoever is ignorant enough not to vote for either"

What does "either" in this case mean?

A) Kucinich and Sharpton
B) Four candidates, breaking the rules of the English language
C) Who cares, I'm really mad and think this poll has a bias
