Super Bowl ,Super Security,is this way over the top?
DETROIT -- Sunday is D-Day.

The FBI and Detroit Police will open one of the largest security operations in U.S. history, guarding against any threats to Super Bowl XL and aided by more than 50 federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.

Including private security guards, there will be upward of 10,000 security personnel on duty in Detroit for the Super Bowl, rivaling the security for any other one-day event in U.S. history and on a scale with a presidential inauguration, the FBI says, capping 18 months of intensive preparations. It would be a larger force than any previous Super Bowl.

4. Remember the guy who got sidewalk-slammed by the Steelr Defense
on Christmas Eve?

The security guard at my workplace was working security that day. He says that Porter had every right to do that.

The guard also pointed out that one Browns fan got through security with a knife with a 6 INCH HANDLE; he spotted it sticking out of the guy's pants in the back . . .

The last time a pro football player got in trouble for smuggling something into a game was a felt-tip marker . . .

2. Detroit is a border city
It requires a different kind of security than most cities. The stadium is a mile or so from the river, which is the border.

They've been practicing a lot over the last day or so-I work a couple of miles north of downtown and have seen lots of copters around, and not the usual news and hospital ones. I'm glad they're there, to be honest. I don't want anything bad to happen at the Super Bowl. We have a bad enough image in Detroit as it is.

10. I agree.
It's unfortunate but in today's world thousands of Americans in a tight, hectic space is a terrorist's dream. Better to be safe than sorry.

I thought we'd be hassled at the border, took my birth cert and SS card along with drivers license. Wasn't even asked for it coming back (should this be a red flag?).

Greek town was hopping with a sax player on one corner of Monroe and a group of boys singing aCapella at the end of the other block (didn't see any cops and the Wayne County jail is right there on the corner). Had dinner at Helena's and finished the meal of with some great Sambuka.

A Detroit police sargent who is a close friend of mind didn't say anything about security or how tight it was going to be. Said his men were pissed about having to work long hours. If I talk to him tomorrow, I'll mention the Detroit News article and ask if it's exaggerated or not.

11. High-definition monitors ... Doesn't that mean Hi-Def cameras?
Gotta be the world's first Hi-Def closed circuit TV system.

from the detnews article:

"High-definition monitors are still being installed, cameras at Ford Field are being hooked into the law enforcement network. A security perimeter fence 300 feet around the stadium is being installed -- and officials will begin limiting access to the area Feb. 3."
