The Real State of the Union 2006:
A No-Nonsense Assessment of U.S. Foreign Policy and Call to Action

Special Keynote Speaker

GENERAL WESLEY CLARK:patriot:
Former NATO Supreme Allied Commander

During thirty-four years of service in the United States Army Wesley K. Clark rose to the rank of four-star general as NATO's Supreme Allied Commander, Europe. In his final military command, General Clark commanded Operation Allied Force, NATO's first major combat action, which saved 1.5 million Albanians from ethnic cleansing in Kosovo. General Clark was also responsible for directing the peacekeeping operation in Bosnia. General Clark was also a Democratic presidential primary candidate in the 2004 elections.

Where:
Dirksen Senate Office Building
Washington, DC
Monday, January 30th

When: 8:30 a.m. – 1:45 p.m.; 12:00 – 1:45 p.m.
Host: www.newamerica.net

-----------------------------------------------------------------
:dem:Please Contact C-SPAN!!
Also snipped from Daily Kos w/Poll

Please contact C-SPAN at viewer@c-span.org and urge them to broadcast this important forum, LIVE! Clark has always said that the real war on terror was in Afghanistan, ...going after OBL and AQ. But Bush distracted our war on terror, by fighting an elective war into Iraq and going after Saddam.

The Bush administration is finally confronting the realities of its incompetencies in foreign policy and national security. Our nations faces serious delemmas in security, policy and diplomacy; as it deals with the prospects of a "real" Islamic fundamentalist government in Iraq and a "real" nuclear proliferation program in Iran. As Clark recently said on FOXNews, " Now, it's time to pay our dues...".

1. Thanks, Pirate!
This is the SOTU that all of America should hear. Let's hope C-SPAN will cover it, because the MSM will surely not.

Edited on Wed Jan-25-06 11:17 AM by FrenchieCat
And I am sure that Wes Clark will be able to express that sentiment in much more detail so that even fools can understand!.......

Of course it won't be covered. If it were, it would be a miracle!

I just went over to Kos to look at the poll referenced in Pirate's OP, and how would anyone be able to make a choice among all those things that Wes might want to talk about? It's ALL important.

TC

On edit, so far this is how the poll stacks up:

What issues should Clark address for the real SOTU?

The Real War on Terror 45%

The Real Threat of Iran's Nuclear Program 6%

The Insurgency and growth of an Islamic State in Iraq 9%

Proper Body Armor for US Troops 0%

The FEMA/Katrina Relief Debacle 9%

The Bush/NSA Scandal Invasion of Privacy 12%

The Rove/Plame CIA Scandal 3%

The $8,000,000,000,000.00 National Debt 6%

Cronyism and The GOP's K-Street Project 0%

The Outsourcing of American Jobs 6%

America's Broken Borders 0%

Dirty Air, Dirty Land, Dirty Water 3%

FYI, the links except Daily Kos in the OP have an extra http in them, as:

which makes them not work as clickable links, at least for me. I can copy and paste and remove the extra http fine.

22. Clark has impressed me his last few TV appearances.
He held up well under the typical barrage of bad bullshit from the Fox News talking heads recently. He's getting much more comfortable on TV being interviewed. I felt 2004 was his rookie season as a pol, and he made rookie mistakes. He's looking a lot better now, making good eye contact, not showing body language that implies uncertainty or discomfort.

He's emerging as a name I could welcome on the ticket in 08.

I'm literally an undecided.

35. Not all, I don't think...
He had all, or pretty much all, of the speeches from that big conference on terrorism NAF sponsored last September. Don't know whether he taped 'em, or worked out a deal with C-SPAN to use their videos. I know C-SPAN taped the thing. They even ran it live... until about 15 minutes before Clark spoke. Well, no surprise there, eh? C-SPAN is owned by the corporate media, afterall.

But I've never seen vids of Clemons' other conferences, fora, working groups etc up at his website. I might have missed 'em.

Edited on Wed Jan-25-06 11:18 PM by Dread Pirate KR Read
Wes Clark's appeared today on FOXNews w/Cavuto

This was one of Clark's more profound interviews, where he discussed the geopolitical pressures surrounding Syria, Iraq and Iran, and the need for more immediate high level diplomacy with these countrys' governments, which this Administration has intentionally neglected.

Note: Video above was recorded by Ruth at CCN: at www.SecuringAmerica.com/ccn; it's 23Mb!

38. Thank you for your emails to C-SPAN!! It Worked!!
Edited on Fri Jan-27-06 11:01 PM by Dread Pirate KR Read
From The Washington Note

"...C-Span will be covering the entire conference LIVE. However, we have learned that the progam will most likely appear on C-Span 3, which is usually available with many digital television packages -- and also available for live streaming over any PC.

This will be a significant foreign policy discussion -- that I think will have some impact on the journalistic environment just preceding the President's Tuesday night State of the Union address.

So, please join us -- in person or over C-Span -- for a discussion of the "Real State of U.S. Foreign Policy 2006".

My comments will be one of the first two in the conference -- and I'm paired with former National Review editor-in-chief John O'Sullivan.

More soon.

34. My letter, which I just got confirmation as received:
Dear C-SPAN:

Please consider covering Wes Clark’s speech at the New America Foundation’s, “The Real State of the Union 2006: A No-Nonsense Assessment of U.S. Foreign Policy and Call to Action” meeting on Monday, Jan. 30.

Since most news outlets are now owned by six or seven mega corporations that tend to lean right because of their parent organizations other contracts, it’s difficult for Americans to find clear information regarding real Democratic positions and the solutions to issues that plague the United States. The Democrats do have solutions, but they’re rarely discussed on network and cable news.

By showing Clark’s speech, live, you would be providing a service to Americans who need to look at other points of view regarding our foreign policies and the direction we need to take to ensure both our safety and our domestic growth in employment and infrastructure. There is another way besides the Bush Administration’s way and Americans deserve to see their choices.

Sincerely,

Edited on Thu Jan-26-06 02:24 PM by Dread Pirate KR Read
I don't think I was as diplomatic,.. about the Bush way, ...
although I did mention that C-SPAN had a responsibility to awaken Americans,
... , and allow Americans to articulate the real truth about our SUTO.

But I did try to be fair about about my comments of the extreme the right-wingers. ...
...

So thanks, I think your letter is perfect, ... and more productive.
