Hillary tries out for American Idol - today's cartoon
It's constructive criticism, folks.

I'm not a big Hillary fan, but I'm not a Hillary hater, either. She's leading the pack for 2008 according to polls. She's the frontrunner. Her recent efforts to take right-leaning positions has concerned me, mainly because I don't think they fit her politics, and I don't think they can be sold.

If she's the nominee, she'll have my support. I think she's a good senator, but when I think she's gone overboard selling her rightward positions, I gotta talk about it.

I don't really get it. Is it supposed to be funny or something?

2. It's supposed to be what it is.
Some will find it funny.

Some will find it amusing.

Some will find it insightful.

Some will find it unfunny, if not annoying.

4. That's the theory.
Perhaps you could just enjoy the artistic skill exhibited.

6. You are right to make fun of what appears to be her strategy.
It is pretty clear her apparent wild swing to the right is some sort of effort to shore up the "Dems are weak on national security" meme, however, she does it at the peril of losing the Dem base. She never had the far-lefties and for them to be outraged at her is ludicrous; they were never going to support her anyway even if she is the ultimate Dem nominee. Still she is making the Dem base - including me - very uncomfortable with her attempts to synthesize testosterone on the Senate floor.

Good job, as always, NL.

8. Thanks. It was inspired by the warbling on American Idol.
The first two weeks of American Idol always have such moments, I thought it might be funny to see Hillary's recent bellicose remarks in that setting.

I understand what she's doing, trying to stake out some middle to right street cred. I just don't think anyone buys it.

7. Well, they can't all be golden.
I wasn't sure how this one would go over.

I wanted to do an American Idol cartoon, and Hillary "singing" a tune that didn't sound like her seemed to work.

Thanks to those who have commented, good or bad. It's feedback, and that is what I seek.

9. It makes a good point .
I also had a vision of Tom Jones singing.

I don't see Hilary running in '08. The GOP base would have to defect to make her a winning candidate. She hasn't done much that has gotten the attention of anyone other than New Yorkers and the DLC supporters, in a positive way, anyhoo. Her swings to the right are just puzzling, not base building.

Identifying and articulating a middle ground is not done by siding with the GOP. John Murtha was much better.

10. I think she could win the nomination in 2008.
But I think she'd have a better shot at it without trying to stake out these positions on the right. No one believes a politician who suddenly runs AWAY from the record they've created in politics, instead of proudly running ON their record.

I want to see fire in her eyes over national health care, and abortion rights, and protecting American jobs. I want to hear sanity in her voice on issues regarding foreign entanglements and unnecessary wars.

Right now, I like what I'm hearing from Gore, Kerry, Feingold and Clark.

I don't like what I'm hearing from Hillary Clinton.

I've been out all day, so haven't had time to post at all, even to tend this thread. Perhaps this evening I can address any issues raised better. I get the sense that many who have enjoyed other cartoons we've done do not care for this one, but are doing what their mama told them about not saying anything if you can't say something nice. I think this is due to the impact of a cartoon over a mere post. Had I written the same things in a post, they would be discussed more.
