Possible Rovian trick regarding Bush/Abramoff photos
It occurred to me that Rove or one of his acolytes might pull another "Rathergate", and issue photo shopped Bush/Abramoff photos. They wait for major newspapers to publish them, then "discover" that the photos are faked. Bush is made to look like the victim of a conspiracy.

Far-fetched? Yes, except for the fact that Karl Rove has actually done things like this!

1. Nice catch, and you're right; it's been done via Rathergate. I'm
glad sources like Time are treading with care. I imagine all those visitors to the wh must have legit photos, and hope they surface soon.

2. Hardly far-fetched.
It does seem ODD to me that no one can find any
of the photos...but one small-time operator suddenly has 5 of them.
Could they be planted fakes?

It is only wise to remain skeptical.

3. How difficult is it to detect a photo shopped photo?

5. I've seen some really well-made faked photos
I can picture some impatient, overambitious editor publishing photos without taking a close cold look to verify their veracity.

10. Not too difficult for the experts...
They examine things like do the shadows make sense? What time of day was it? What was the weather? Do the shadows all look the same on all the people?

Are there any unexplainable discontinuities in color or intensity of the picture?

Can I find this person in the same exact position in another photo? (And there are detection algorithms for this these days.)

Does anything look repeated? (Like soldiers in Bush speech pictures or helicopters in Soviet May Day parades...)

There are lots of ways to tell...

4. If I raised $100,000 for the
prick and were among the invited elite pioneers at White House functions, I would make sure I get pictures. Aren't these guys are all into status symbols and trophies?

6. What makes this all the more
possible is that the photos were not released for publication by their owner. We need to know the provenance of the photos--who has them and for how long. Otherwise, gee whillackers, I saw these pix, and they were what everyone's been looking for--trust me, wink, wink. That won't cut it in a world that has been spoiled by Rovian tricks.

8. Fitz can simply get a court order to get the photos
I am not a lawyer, but my guess is that they are waiting for Fitz or another Justice department lawyer, to get a court order-- to have the media and/or source turn over the photos.

9. Could be. When searching google's images DB for such pics
there seemed to be an unusually high percentage of thumbnail photos that led to dead ends without the actual photo there anymore.

That made me think that the photos have been assiduously searched for and deleted.

11. I'm sure Time is doing it's homework
and that's why they haven't published them yet.

In fact that is probably why they announced their existence without publishing them to see who and what they could flush out of the woodwork before publishing them.

I'm sure they have photographic forensic experts going over them as we type here tonight.

12. Hasn't he been indicted yet?
Well, see it worked for Jack Cafferty with Tom DeLay.

One day he asked hadn't DeLay been indicted yet when some more news about him came on, and exactly one week later DeLay was In-DeLay-dicted!!!!

So everyone together:

Hasn't Rove been indicted yet???
