Sen Lott:“I considered Frist’s power grab a personal betrayal,”
Trent is out to bitch slap Frist!
Splat.

Lott is running, but he won’t reveal what for
By Jonathan Allen

Sen. Trent Lott’s decision to seek reelection in November portends an epic bid by the deposed majority leader to return to the upper ranks of Senate leadership in the next Congress.

Lott (R-Miss.) was forced out of the chamber’s top job after praising the segregationist 1948 presidential campaign of Strom Thurmond at a 100th birthday party for Thurmond late in 2002. But Lott, equal parts dealmaker and gadfly as an outsider, has been spoiling for a comeback ever since.

“If I come back here, I’m going to run for a leadership position,” Lott told a small group of reporters last month.

He announced his reelection campaign yesterday in his hometown of Pascagoula, not far from the hurricane-demolished coastal house from which he acknowledged three years ago, in a written statement delivered by his wife, that he would relinquish his post as majority leader.

He painted his decision to seek reelection as a choice between public service and a quiet life with his family.

“I have chosen Mississippi and America once again,” said Lott, who later sidestepped a question about his hopes for leadership.

1. Wanna bet
on who tipped off the Feds to Frist's financial state?

Lott's been SO pissed at being unseated by Frist that he's been plotting this ever since.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

heh heh heh

9. Actually,
the SEC was investigating Frist's family business long before Lott got tossed, but, it's a pretty thought, isn't it?

I love when they start devouring their own. I love watching this bunch of bastards start cracking apart.

4. I'm with you on that
Trent kept his car, his staff, his perks....because he figured he was gonna need them again. That business about retiring was a canard, to lull his opponents (the ones on HIS side of the aisle) into complacency--he never intended to retire, and he has been quietly busy behind the scenes.

One thing even the Democrats can say about Trent--even when playing political hardball, he always played by the rules. He didn't pull sneaky shit or burn bridges. One might not care for his politics, but he behaved in a straightforward manner on the political front. Not at all like these sleazy bastards who scurry to the White House for their marching orders, and will break every rule, ignore every tradition, to get their way.

Even at that, though, he is not above giving someone a dose of their own richly-deserved medicine. And I'll bet he's got a few more doses in reserve, too....that guy didn't go as far as he did by being dumb, that's for sure.

6. No, not true--Trent was not canned for the Strom shit, it was because he
wanted to be in charge of the pork, like the Leader always has been in Congresses past. The White House wanted a puppet in the Senate, and Trent, who had a reputation for bringing home the bacon, and doling it out to key supporters who played it his way, was refusing to play along and be merely a White House messenger--he insisted on the historical Leader's place at the table. That's why he was shitcanned in favor of the clueless, more malleable Frist.

Trent returning as GOP Leader (I hope he would return as the MINORITY Leader, myself) would be the Chimp's worst nightmare. Trent won't forget what was done to him.

13. How this racist asshole can win Miss. is beyond me.
Speaks volumes about Black disenfranchisement and district jerrymandering, however...

14. Well, it is a statewide race, so gerrymandering isn't the issue
Disenfranchisement is always a problem, though.

Trent brings home pork to his state, and the pork is well-distributed. That is what gets him in, again and again.
