Club for Growth endorses Cuellar, its first Democrat
What's THAT tell ya?

A conservative group that champions tax cuts and limited government did something yesterday it has never done before: It endorsed a Democrat.

Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas is the first Democrat to receive an endorsement from the Club for Growth, which champions free trade, school choice and other issues dear to many Republicans.

Cuellar faces former Rep. Ciro Rodriguez in a March 7 Democratic primary. In 2004, Cuellar beat Rodriguez by 58 votes after a prolonged legal battle. Cuellar then attracted 59 percent of the vote in the general election.

...the Club’s president, Pat Toomey....cited Cuellar’s support for the Central America Free Trade Agreement, repealing the estate tax and reforming the public-school system as reasons for the Club’s endorsement.

He added that the endorsement should make it loud and clear that the conservative group, which claims more than 30,000 members nationwide, is above the partisan fray.

The Club for Growth "is above the partisan fray."

1. Cuellar is a DINO at best.

He's a Rebublican who stole the election from Ciro Rodriguez. Mysterious ballot boxes showing up after the fact and all.

He supports CAFTA, which makes sense when you think of how much Laredo has grown since NAFTA. But, he's a Republican in Democrat's clothes. IMHO, of course.

3. Cuellar was Bush's Secretary of State
when the fool was TX governor and is for all practical purposes a Republican. Cuellar couldn't beat Henry Bonilla for his seat in 02. Came close but didn't do it. Then, when the redistricting fiasco happened, it was a literally last minute amendment that merged placed Webb county into Ciro's old district which gave Cuellar the opportunity to run. Then, through some of the most blatant as well as arrogant election fraud Texas has ever seen, Cuellar beat Rodriguez in the primary 2 years ago. This time, Ciro's bunch is loaded for bear and you won't see a repeat of the Webb county fraud we saw 2 years ago.

4. I think that DINO gets bandied about here to much BUT
Cuellar is a DINO given his past, his positons, and his links to Bush. He needs to be defeated and a loyalist Dem nominated like Rodriguez.
