I was fired up after listening to Gores speech and had to let Arlen know that we're watching him closely. I truly hope he has a soul and will search it to consider his responsibilities and act on what he finds there. To make sure it had the greatest impact, I sent it through old fashioned by-god USPS snail mail. I made a point of keeping it short and to the point, but would like to get some on the style and points made.
Senator Specter, I am writing you while reflecting on the speech given today by former Vice President Al Gore. His speech at Constitution Hall dramatically demonstrated that the current administration has no respect or understanding of the strength and beauty of the form of government conceived by the founding fathers. I am sure that it will be compared in the future to those of Martin Luther King, Dwight D. Eisenhower, or Franklin D. Roosevelt.
I urge you use your senior position in the senate to assure that a thorough, independent investigation of the administration as to the legality of actions that clearly appear to be unconstitutional. I have great fear for the future of our nation unless the balance of powers and rule of law are upheld. This fear is based on an intense scrutiny of Washington politics that has consumed me since March 19, 2003. I had never been politically engaged before that point, but now realize what is at stake.
I also urge you to reconsider your support of Samuel Alito. Having reviewed his decisions on the Third Circuit, it is clear that he regularly decides in favor of power and wealth. His unwillingness to provide concise and clear answers during the hearings did nothing to curb my fear that the rights of the citizen will be eroded if he is appointed to the Supreme Court. Sincerely,
