Take their "phrase-ology" and USE IT!
(The White House is saying that Hillary Clinton's attack is "out of bounds", and they want to talk about it. So.... ( like good, obedient, little children) the Democrats discuss WHAT THE REPUBLICANS HAVE FRAMED as "out of bounds.")

Couldn't at least ONE Democrat have the foresight to say....

No! What IS "out of bounds" is how the President is abusing his power as President, by ignoring the Constitution that he has sworn to uphold.....or.....

No! What IS "out of bounds" is how the President holds no one in his administratiobn accountable for their actions when they are clearly putting our nation in danger.....or

No! What IS "out of bounds" is knowing that the President of the United States is willing to sacrifice the lives of American soldiers in order to promote his unconstitutional agenda....or

...well, you get the idea.

This is NOT difficult...take their words...and USE THEM to say what YOU want to say.

:banghead:

1. ...and who is going to tell you....
if they said it? Did you hear Gore's speech? Do you hear anything of that plethora of material being regurgitated to you today?

4. It doesn't matter......
They'll have to cover ONE democrat saying ONE thing. Let that one thing be a well articulated slam against the repugs.

7. Yes, I heard Gore's speech...
..and we should USE Gore's "talking points" whenever we can. If ten Democrats speak out....and only two Democrats are quoted, isn't that better than not having spoken out at all? (The media is not going to help us...we have to help ourselves.)

Karen(Hughes) Rule #1:

"My 'Echo Chamber messages' are meant to provide you clear talking points in a conversational format on the hot issues of the day....I encourage you to take advanage of opportunities to speak out, and look forward to our aggressive promotion of U.S. policy."

Democrats don't have the media at their back, so they have to work harder.

2. You're right....
How come we get it here on DU, but many of our dem leaders fall for that repug bullshit tactic. We have to keep hammering away at their crimes.

Hell, maybe DU can host a seminar for all democratic politicians teaching them how this "framing" is done. It's not that hard. Every word out of their mouths should highlight the shortcomings of those freeper politicians. EVERY WORD!!

3. They had some high-priced consultant that was supposed
to do that already. What ever happened to that initiative?

5. Hell, me and Yoda Yada will do it.......
We'll even cut them a deal. Maybe charge them by the phrase.

Seriously, I do remember that initiative. As much as I hate that asswipe Mehlman, He's a master at doing exactly this every time.

6. Classic framing technique does not use opposition phrasing.
Edited on Tue Jan-17-06 04:30 PM by quiet.american
I get your point, but --

According to George Lakoff, father of framing if you will, rule #2 of framing is as follows:

"Don't think of an elephant. If you keep their language and their framing and just argue about it, you lose because you are just reinforcing their language.

Howard Dean taking down Wolf Blitzer was the classic lesson in framing. He repeated none of Blitzer's phrasing, but relentlessly pummelled him with the facts in short, staccato bursts, leaving Blitzer absolutely sputtering and speechless. Now, that we can all take a lesson from!

10. Don't play by the "framing rules" all the time...
..use your instincts.

You are "reinforcing" THEIR frame when you talk about Hillary being "out of bounds". You are creating YOUR OWN FRAME when you talk about President Bush "being out of bounds". (Using THEIR own words to come back and bite them is .....actually.........quite rewarding.)

11. This is how it goes for me --
If a rule works, I keep it. If not, I go with something else. If this works for you, go with it.

12. turn the game metaphor back on them: "they're not even on the field."
"they're heads aren't in the game."

Live by the trite metaphor (out of bounds), die by the trite metaphor's entailments.
