Little Scotty McClellan basically tells Al Gore to "Bring It Awwwwwwnn"...
WASHINGTON - The White House accused former Vice President Al Gore of hypocrisy Tuesday for his assertion that President Bush broke the law by eavesdropping on Americans without court approval. “If Al Gore is going to be the voice of the Democrats on national security matters, we welcome it,” White House press secretary Scott McClellan said in a swipe at the Democrat, who lost the 2000 election to Bush only after the Supreme Court intervened.

Gore, in a speech Monday, called for an independent investigation of the administration program that he says broke the law by listening in — without warrants — on Americans suspected of talking with terrorists abroad.

Gore called the program, authorized by President Bush, “a threat to the very structure of our government” and charged that the administration acted without congressional authority and made a “direct assault” on a federal court set up to authorize requests to eavesdrop on Americans.

Meanwhile, two civil liberties groups — the American Civil Liberties Union and the Center for Constitutional Rights — filed federal lawsuits Tuesday seeking to block the eavesdropping program, which they called unconstitutional electronic surveillance of American citizens. McClellan said the Clinton-Gore administration had engaged in warrantless physical searches, and he cited an FBI search of the home of CIA turncoat Aldrich Ames without permission from a judge. He said Clinton’s deputy attorney general, Jamie Gorelick, had testified before Congress that the president had the inherent authority to engage in physical searches without warrants. “I think his hypocrisy knows no bounds,” McClellan said of Gore.

Is Snotty charging Gore with the same crime wire tapping without a warrant or due process? Is he admitting Bush committed a crime and hinting something about Gore while he was Vice President? Is Snotty divulging classified actions by the Clinton White House? Is Snotty defaming the reputation of Al Gore?

Snotty better watch out especially if he is violating the National Security he pretends to defend.

9. I hope Gore stays engaged on this now!!
He should fight back on these assertions that under Clinton/Gore the FBI conducted warrantless searches -- the FBI is not the FSA!!!

...engaged in warrantless physical searches...."

Gore wasn't talking about physical searches, jackass, he was talking about wiretapping.

From the Senate Select Committe on Intelligence (via this entry by maha at DailyKos:
Under applicable Attorney General guidelines, this meant that the FBI was able to seek authority under pertinent laws and Justice Department guidelines to employ a full array of investigative techniques against Ames. For instance, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court issued orders authorizing electronic surveillance of Ames's office and residence.

(Emphasis added by maha.)

Way to try to shift the focus, Snotty. Typical. :eyes:

Edit: Also a good article over at Media Matters for America about this subject:

(Republican attorney Victoria) Toensing's assertion -- that the physical search of Ames's house and the Gorelick testimony demonstrate that the Clinton administration did not consider itself bound by FISA -- is simply false.

When Gorelick testified before the House Intelligence Committee in 1994 that the president had the "inherent authority to conduct warrantless physical searches," FISA did not apply to physical searches for foreign intelligence purposes, as Media Matters for America has noted. A year later, Congress -- with Clinton's support -- amended FISA to require court orders for physical searches. The Clinton administration thereafter never argued that any "inherent authority" pre-empted the new warrant requirements for physical searches under FISA.

(Emphasis added by yours truly)

16. ad hominem
never address the substance of the accusation, only ad hominem: attack the messenger.

when will "the american people" reject this rhetorical device? probably never, as very few of them even know what a debate is, or logic, for that matter. and neither does the MSM.
