CBS News South Carolina poll, Edwards- 30, Kerry- 18
Edwards Finds Southern Comfort

(CBS/AP) As the race for the Democratic nomination spreads across the country, Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C., is maintaining a solid regional advantage in South Carolina, the first Southern state to hold a presidential primary.

Edwards, a native South Carolinian, leads Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts by 12 points in the Palmetto State, according to a new CBS News poll.

Edwards currently garners 30 percent of the vote to Kerry's 18 percent. Three other candidates – Wesley Clark, Al Sharpton and Howard Dean – are tied for third place.

2. It's good for JRE. Him winning a primary will help his name recognition.
Making the JFK~JRE ticket that much more potent.

8. Impressive, hopefully Wes can get something going out West...
and they both can slow down Kerry's big mo on Tues.

P.S. not ruling out Edward's ability to surprise further West either.

11. Edwards winning (with Kerry coming in 2nd) would be a positive IMO.
It strengthens a possible JFK-JRE ticket. Both'd have good name rec etc.

15. I hope that Edwards DOES win SC.
And that Clark wins Oklahoma. I think it's good for the party.

Of course, it would be GREAT for the party if Dennis Kucinich wins some.

I actually do want DK to win some and would love for him to be President. That would be a great day.

20. Where is Sharpton at in this poll???
If he is ABOVE 10% then the poll passes the Al Sharpton LITMUS TEST.

Like I said in the Zogby poll thread. Any poll from SC that has Sharpton below 10% is not credible, because it obviously underrepresented the 50% black turnout that is expected next Tuesday, so the sample was not demographically proportionate to the electorate.

Zogby has a history of doing that.

If Sharpton is above 10% then I can accept this poll a little more.

Oh, I found it, here it goes. He is at 11%.
