Remember when David Drier was to replace Tom Delay but.....?
at the last minute, Roy Blunt was chosen? There is another post in GD, relating to the $1million dollars contributed by the Russians, thru British legal channels to Abramoff and a group called the US FAmily Network. It appears that Roy Blunt was connected at the hip to Delay and Abramoff. That would explain why they spread the rumors about Drier being "gay" and, almost on a minutes notice, put Roy Blunt in to "replace" Tom Delay. With Blunt taking over, Delay and the lobbyists would not miss a beat. It makes more sense now.

1. They used the threat of outing to push him aside.
That's why there's no mention of his name is the "new leadership" circus.

11. Hmmm..that actually speaks well of Hastert, though.
I'd much rather have opponents than enemies. I want to be able to have a respectful debate with those who disagree with me, rather than all out warfare. That way, the best idea, or best comprise toward a beneifical ideal, would rule the day.

But, whatever.

5. A BLIND tobacco lobbyist?
No offense to the vision-impaired, but have you looked at that mug?

Yikes. His picture is next to the definition of "cretin" in the dictionary.

10. Losing the position because he was
supposed to be gay was the wrong thing to do but the outcome was good. Dreier would have been musch worse than Blunt in that job. He has no ties to Abramoff and he isn't a religious wacko like Blunt. He has some credibilty as a fiscal conservative without being a raving nut job on the social issues. He would have been much more difficult to deal with.
