Right up to the point when you introduce facts into the discussion. The "I don't believe that" response just totally pisses me off. If it's not that it is a biased source. You just can't win with these idiots!

Disclaimer: The only reason I waste my time is because we're related.

1. The best way to win an argument is to steam roller them
with facts. If they still don't believe, tell them to go and educate themselves.

3. But that's the problem...

2. It's kind of fun to prove them wrong
in front of a bunch of people. I sometimes get a guy at work pissed off at me and when I start introducing facts into arguments, he actually sputters and either walks away or calls me names. Sometimes he yells and just generally makes a complete ass of himself. Most of the time, other guys laugh at him because he is a blowhard. One of these kind of guys who knows everything, or so he thinks. Try attacking this person in front of others who may think like you do.

4. They don't want to reason, they want to TESTIFY
and the only thing you can do with such people who parrot right wing talking points without listening to a word you say and without considering any other viewpoint is to file them under "blowhard" and walk away.

The most you can do is call their viewpoint unchristian. That generally gets their attention, but still, the best policy is to say it and leave.

5. Then why argue?
It's as if you were arguing with a brick wall. Or, better yet, a child who sticks his or her fingers in his or her ears and says, "LaLaLaLaLa, I can't HEAR you!" Why bother? It's like trying to make a rock sprout legs and saunter down to the corner store. In short, ain't gonna happen.

6. I met a con in a bar who immediately wanted to know how I felt about ANWR
and was ready to have at me if I said I didn't support drilling. I actually started talking about energy independance instead, and how ANWR was just a short fix for a bigger problem. The Libertarian I was sitting next to understood, but the Bushbot almost went off on a rant. The Lib stopped him. I appreciated it. He was as bemused by them as I was. He said that he thought Bush was about 80 percent wrong in what he does, but unlike us, he was speaking from the uber conservative side.
