Governor General recalls 'harsh' 2005
Last Updated Sun, 01 Jan 2006 13:21:59 EST
CBC News

"In her first New Year's message, Gov. Gen. Michaëlle Jean praised Canadians for helping victims of natural disasters around the world.

"This past year will be remembered for its harshness," she said, recalling the Indian Ocean tsunami that struck southern Asia in late 2004, as well as the hurricanes that struck New Orleans and her native Haiti in 2005.

She said Canadians rose to the challenge of helping others.

"It is often in the face of adversity that individuals must rise to their full potential. We have done this. By the thousands, Canadians eagerly and generously answered the cries for help from their fellow human beings."

6. Steve_, I just noticed your sig-line and Googled it
Here's one hit: http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/sunday/commentary/la-oe-chait18dec18,0,3973897.column?coll=la-sunday-commentary

I had never heard that quote before, but I'll use it to good effect. There's a thread on my union BBS, featuring the sleazy corruption of DeLay, Abramoff, Frist and others. It'll fit in there very nicely. THANKS.
