Potential VP's in 2008... What about Sen. Rockefeller?
Edited on Thu Dec-29-05 08:25 PM by nickshepDEM
We often spend a lot of time discussing potential 2008 Presidential candidates. Well, what about the VP's?

I was thinking about this today and Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) popped into my head.

http://rockefeller.senate.gov/about_jay/committees.htm">Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV)

Pros:
-Rockefeller is the Vice Chairman of the Select Committee on Intelligence.
-He brings the much needed foreign policy/national-security credentials (Especially if nominate a Governor or Senator who does not sit on an Intelligence/Defense/Foreign Relations committee).
-WV would be very competitive, possibly lean-dem from start to finish.
-Almost universal last name id.

Cons:
-His long resume may overshadow our nominee.
-He's old.
-He probably would not be able to run for president after two terms as VP.

1. We could sure use West Virginia back from the GOP.
I'm still sad that West Virginia voters preferred Dubya in 2000 to Al Gore. Hard to fathom.

Yes. Senator Rockefeller might be able to pull the state back into the blue zone.

2. WV is a very odd state. The dem's at the state level are like a machine.

They win almost everything. The state GOP is a complete joke, but when it comes to presidential elections the voters are all over the place.

Jimmy Carter did well in WV.
Mondale did not.
Dukakis did well in WV.
Clinton did well in WV.
Gore did not.
Kerry did not.

Dukakis and Kerry are both northeastern liberals, but Dukakis was able to carry WV, where Kerry got his ass handed to him.

What gives?

3. What gives?
Voting machine hackers! I don't believe for a moment that Kerry didn't win WV, and many other states, for that matter.

Who here really thinks that that the majority of Americans are ignorant christian fascists?

Even West Virginia have progressives in dem dar hills and coal mining towns.

hell, these people's parents and grandparents laid their lives on the line in order to have the right to to have Union Representation. hell, they were practically communinists! no one can tell me that West Virginia is a bastion of ignorant christian fascists.

5. Please, no Rockefellers!
I don't want to sound too "tin hat" here, but we really need to get these globalist elitist fucks (Rockefellers, Bildebergers, CFR, etc.) out of our government once and for all.

7. Jay Rockefeller first went to W.Va. as a VISTA volunteer.
He lived and worked with the poor for over two years. (VISTA use to be called the "domestic Peace Corp"). Then he went on to become the president of a small college in W.Va. I am sure he knows all about global corporations but I think he is more like one of the "good" Kennedys: he started out with a lot of money but he really fights for the poor and is a great environmentalist. He is also a great advocate for better health care coverage.

6. The problem with Rockefeller is that his name is Rockefeller.
Let's get some fresh names in the political lexicon and retire Rockefeller, Bush, Dole and Clinton. There has been a Bush, Dole or Clinton in every presidential election since 1976. And Jay's uncle Nelson was Ford's VP. I don't think the name "Rockefeller" is a political draw. Too many people will judge him guilty by association with Uncle David.
