FBI spying on political organizations (like the ACLU, PETA, & Greenpeace)
Edited on Tue Dec-27-05 07:19 PM by Thom Little
Click the link below to see federal government documents detailing how the FBI spied on political organizations such as the ACLU, PETA and Greenpeace, all of it done in the name of fighting terrorism.

The federal government is spying on Americans. Documents requested by the ACLU under the Freedom of Information Act expose wide-ranging investigations into peaceful organizations by the FBI and its Joint Terrorism Task Forces.

.......

The ACLU is calling for a special counsel to determine if oaths of office were broken or federal laws were violated. We have also requested records from the NSA and other agencies in our ongoing campaign to reveal and limit unchecked government spying on Americans.

Responding to ACLU FOIA requests filed in 20 states on behalf of more than 150 organizations and individuals, the government has released documents that reveal FBI monitoring and infiltration by the FBI and local law enforcement, targeting political, environmental, anti-war and faith-based groups.

Our clients include advocates for the environment, animal rights, labor, religion, Native American rights, fair trade, grassroots politics, peace, social justice, nuclear disarmament, human rights and civil liberties. When the FBI invades the privacy of political and religious groups in the name of fighting terrorism, it abuses our trust and threatens our freedom. The public deserves to know who is being investigated and why.

But I am outraged!!

We are not yet a police state but we are very close to becoming one. If the 2006 mid-term elections add to the republican majority in Congress then there will no reason to live here any longer. Who would want to live in a country that eagerly embraces KGB like policies? Such a country is definitely not worth figting for.

2. I am on the list!
As a contributing member of ACLU and Greenpeace, I guess my name is on the FBI's list of subversives.

I thought J. Edgar Hoover was dead!

3. Support the ACLU
There is no better defender out there of civil liberties and freedom. Give money and if you cannot, give them an e-mail or note of support.

6. i am a member of PETA, NRDC, pubic citizen. every year when
i have my taxes done and i get to donations, i tell the accountant not to mention certain groups that i give to. i figure just one ass who doesn't like peta could look at my return and then i would be audited. but i guess at this point the government knows. I'll still keep it off my tax returns just in case.

8. Don't know about ACLU but the others had some people who broke
the law a while back. Rule of thumb - don't let anyone break the law in the name of your organization and vet people properly.
