Holy shit.. Rice authorized spying on UN Security Council prior Iraq vote

Out-fucking-rageous. Jeeee-zus. If there is anyone left who is not outraged by this one, they need to be declared brain-dead. Chimpy and the gang tapped the HOMES and offices of UN Security Council members to 'see' how they would vote on the Iraq war resolution!!!! How the f*ck can THIS be explained as a National Security issue???? It only shows that Bus & co had HOT PANTS to invade Iraq! Shiiiiiiit. Just when I think they have gone to the bottom, they push the bottom further down.

IMPEACH this TYRANT! NOW.

President Bush and other top officials in his administration used the National Security Agency to secretly wiretap the home and office telephones and monitored private email accounts of members of the United Nations Security Council in early 2003 to determine how foreign delegates would vote on a U.N. resolution that paved the war for the U.S.-led war in Iraq, NSA documents show.

Two former NSA officials familiar with the agency's campaign to spy on U.N. members say then-National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice authorized the plan at the request of President Bush, who wanted to know how delegates were going to vote. Rice did not immediately return a call for comment.

3. I'm sure the 24/7 cable networks would be all over this right now....
....except there's an airplane with a cargo doors indicator light on, and it's planning to come in for a landing. Ya know, priorities.

20. Good observation!
Sometimes I wonder if Rove isn't planning these distractions.

It wasn't even a door open, just a signal for a door open.

And the coverage just went on and on.

5. Has anyone here ever worked for someone that you just KNEW
was crazy?

I have - a chef who was in no way my boss ( I was a waitress)but who seemed to terrorize all those who worked for the company/restaurant in whatever capacity

"Two former NSA officials familiar with the agency's campaign to spy on U.N. members say then-National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice authorized the plan at the request of President Bush, who wanted to know how delegates were going to vote. "

SHE MUST HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS WRONG but the "request" comes from a crazy man and I believe she is scared of him

Terrified of him would be the better word. I'm not making excuses for her - going along with this is flat out wrong - but I wouldn't ever work for a wacked out nut ever again; I can still remember how scared we all were.

One of the best days of my life was when I walked out of that environment

14. I'm not excusing her at all
She authorised this and she should suffer the consequences (in my perfect world she'll be impeached along with him and hopefully will have to do jail time for everything)

I'm basing my post on another tidbit I had read earlier: she told a foreign diplomat ""Don't upset him " meaning B*

He must be a real SOB

I just know that I will never work for anyone like that ever again

24. This Condi spying authorization of bugging the UN must be ressurrected
Condi must receive all she's responsible for, Ms. Rice backs Bush when stating the administration only spied on the bad guys... which quite obviously a false statemnet.

8. Any other media reporting yet?
Not that I lack trust in Raw Story (they've had better coverage of Plamegate than anyone), but I get the same reaction when I quote Raw Story to a Republican that I give when they quote Drudge. I'd like to see others covering it.

Why would anyone ever BOTHER to help Bush. Why would they help us in Iraq when they cannot respect the UN as an institution????

19. Yes - two years ago sounds about right...
This is an old story, but was given little notice in the Corporate MSM

I'm glad it's been dusted off and circulating again. It needs to be given the attention it deserves. I think i first heard about it on demcoracy now or other alternative news source. but i think it was first reported in the NYT or WaPo. (can't remember now)...

18. I have a stupid question - what law does this violate?
This is absolutely standard practice in the intelligence community. All diplomatic corps assume that all communications are monitored and recorded 24x7, and with good reason. These people are not ordinary citizens, they are a member of a class that ASSUMES a level of risk and privacy violation. If the President - whether Democratic or Republican - wants to know this kind of thing, that's how it gets done.

IMHO, this isn't the right stick to beat the dead horse with. This is a distraction from the domestic wiretaps of American citizens in their own homes, and the leak may have been planned that way to distract us.

25. Freedom isn't free, you know.

You have to use wiretaps to keep us free. And to keep us free, you should arrest us if we dissent.

oops. I should not have said wiretaps. It's "freedom taping".
