Mr. Lisst Goes to Washington - we take the White House in cartoon
Edited on Tue Dec-27-05 02:30 AM by Neil Lisst
I'm going to skip ahead a couple of weeks to the WHITE HOUSE phase, where we made a decision to make the White House the focal point of our cartoon. We also decided to go for the yucks more, since feedback from good friends and able critics suggested message with humor beats message without humor.

Oh how quickly we sell out for approval!

There are 3 here, and I'll post 5 that follow these in the next post.

These 8 were part of a new phase for us, where Neil would be seen less, and more focus would be on the White House.

4. Good. I like the one with David Gregory and Scott McClellan.
I'm big fan of David Gregory, one of the few WH journalist who has been consistently on point.

6. Glad you liked it.
I liked that one, too. It was an homage to those two funny men, Abbott and Costello. Truly one of the great, great gags of all time.

10. You KNOW it's happened!!
Remember during the 2000 election when Will Ferrell did Bush in the debates? He had one where he was Bush and he had learned several names of African leaders, who he was only too happy to show he could pronounce.

Bush is the college student cramming for his next exam, and forgetting it all within a few days. That's why his speeches contain so much material from previous speeches. He's like the college student who uses the same book and book report in 4 different classes, varying it slightly depending on the professor.

14. and useless unrelated facts that nobody cares about.
Albany is in New York and is the capitol, you know.

And California is a state - on the west coast.

He's always LECTURING us on shit he KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT and we know a thousand time more.

15. Isn't that the truth?! He acts like whatever he just learned no one knows
His lifelong ignorance of something ends, and suddenly he's a teacher to the rest of us.

This silly bastid couldn't name 10 of the amendments to the Constitution, even after 5 years as president. He'd get the first, the second, the 22nd, maybe the 4th and the 13th, maybe the 18th and 21st (since he's a drinker).

16. I'm a big Yao Ming fan!
So I like to mention him.

When my cartoonist partner was doing his comic NBAddict is when I got to know him through NBA matters. We collaborated on some cartoons then that included Yao Ming, and eventually my partner got a deal with Yao Ming's agency. He's done a bunch of stuff for them, so Yao Ming and his peeps are near and dear to our hearts.

19. Yeah, Darth is perfect for Cheney.
I'm proud of the light sabre named HALLIBURTON, too.

That is the way Cheney runs his private intelligence and military operations. He's friggin' evil personified.

17. Thank you. We sure love doing it.
I am using the holidays to run these retrospectives, make it easy for people to get a read of a week or two of cartoons in one thread.

The White House series was a turning point, in my view, because we sort of freed ourselves to go anywhere, do anything, if there's a cartoon in it. We expanded the use of color and went for a more professional look throughout. The early Neil Lisst's look like Steamboat Willie by comparison.
