Rasmussen Reports: "50% approve of the way Bush is performing"
President Bush Job Approval

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/Bush_Job_Approval.htm

Friday December 23, 2005--Fifty percent (50%) of American adults approve of the way George W. Bush is performing his role as President. That's up six points since the President's speech on Sunday night.

It's also the first time since July that the President's Job Approval has reached the 50% mark. He earns approval from 81% of Republicans, 23% of Democrats, and 42% of those not affiliated with either major political party.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/Bush_Job_Approval.htm

WHO makes this shit UP?

:grr:

15% haven't "changed their minds" in the past month.

But then again- it's Rasmussen- and as any statistician will tell you, these kinds of "polls" are purposefully designed to influence public opinion, not to reflect it.

45. When has he been known for push polling?
Scott Rasmussen is a Republican, John Zogby is a Democrat, I don't think it compromises their polls.

Rasmussen did an incredible job polling in 2004, and I give him a lot of credibility for that reason.

In 2006, ignore his polls at your own peril.

Yes, between the secret spying, the deceptions leading to war and more, there is plenty to justify putting him on trial.
85%
No, like any president, he has made a few missteps, but nothing approaching "high crimes and misdemeanors."
5%
No, the man has done absolutely nothing wrong. Impeachment would just be a political lynching.

16. Nothing wrong with the poll
Sorry, but there is nothing at all wrong with this poll. You are fooling yourselves. All the polls are showing him up to 45-50%. What's wrong is with the American public. The majority love the tough-guy cowboy routine; I'll protect the public from the evildoers and never back down approach. Bush knows how to play his public like a violin- just be tough and whenever he gets off his ass and does his act his people love it. They don't give a shit that he is lying and is total BS. They just want the tough guy they want to believe they elected.

The country is getting what it deserves. You think for a minute they won't vote again for someone who talks to them like Bush does. Of course they will.

Edited on Fri Dec-23-05 06:57 PM by peaches2003
So you are going to say all the polls are manipulated? Can't remember which, but there were others up to 47% approval. Just because we see through **** and realize he is a madman who is destroying this country and has shredded the B of R, the ones who love him and voted for him can't admit even to themselves they were wrong and we were right. So he acts tough and they are back in the fold.

Over and over we fool ourselves that this is it, we've got him now. And then we can't understand what happens when he's back on top. If we are going to say these polls are manipulated, then you have to say the same thing when he drops down. Can't have it both ways. If we are going to continually lose to this madman we have to understand why.

That's the actual headline...

I don't put trust in many of the polls, especially Rasmussen.

19. I hate to say your right...
but you do have a good point. However lets not be too simplest about it. Most of Bush's sus port(personnel experience) comes from people who don't want to brother by politics. They take whats given to them with out question, as long as they find it easy to swallow.
I've started many discussions with any of his followers I can corner, it always forms the same pattern.
1. They try to dis smith with a label. (I sure you all know the ones I mean.)
2. When that fails it's time for volume-after all if you shout loud enough you hear nothing(as any kid can tell you.)
3. Then if I'm patient and stay focused. They shut down. This takes about 4 or 5 minutes. As long as some commercial breaks, that as long as they want to deal with politics.
No wonder we get bad results.

Edited on Fri Dec-23-05 08:54 PM by spooky3
Go to this site and click on the "approval" link. You'll see that with the exception of one outlier (ABC/WaPo), the other polls are clustered closer to 40%.

http://www.pollkatz.homestead.com/

on edit: "Pollkatz" does not track Rasmussen because of copyright issues.

Go also to mediamatters.org and find the story about how CNN and Fox reporters ignored their own polls showing that Bush's approval has stayed the same or declined, to tout the one poll (ABC/WaPo) that suggested Bush's approval was increasing.

I do agree with you though that there are far too many people being played like violins, by Bush with the complicity of his media enablers. Republicans own the media in this country and the lowly journalists know on what side their bread is buttered.

40. It is a rolling poll so that the numbers reflect a lot of
day to day stuff...

Also, there is a holiday bump... People in a good mood...

And the talking tough seems to have energized his base again, recaptured some of the disenchanted right....

The thing to note on that particular survey is that the people who strongly disapprove of push has been hovering over 35% for months now and those who strongly approve has been in the low to mid 20% range....

21. These results seem more realistic IMO
Interviews conducted 12/9/05 through 12/11/05, after Bush 11/30 speech to Naval Academy, after Bush 12/7 speech to Council on Foreign Relations, but before Bush 12/12 address to Philadelphia World Affairs Council, before Bush 12/14 address to Woodrow Wilson Center for Scholars, before 12/15 Iraqi elections, before Bush 12/17 "live" radio address, before Bush 12/18 Prime-Time Oval Office address, and before Bush 12/19 morning press conference.

(also before spying revelation)

Weighted Average
Approve 40%
Disapprove 57%

('Weighted Average' means each state is weighted proportionally to its share of USA population. For example, California, the most populated state, is given 71 times the weight of WY the least populated state, in a weighted avg.)

Unweighted Average
Approve 42%
Disapprove 55%

('Unweighted Average' means each state is given equal weight; population density is not taken into account).

Also:

20 states disapproval at less than 40%
8 states disapproval under 35%

And:
only 7 states 50% or higher

600 adults age 18+ in each of the 50 states were interviewed by SurveyUSA 12/9/05 to 12/11/05.

http://www.surveyusa.com/50State2005/50StatePOTUS1205ByApproval.htm

With the plus or minus 4% allowance, the reality is probably closer to a 38% approval.

26. Of Course
Of course his poll #s went up! Because he is protecting his little toadies! He's tough and he will stop those evildoers no matter what he has to do. These are the people who openly say they don't care if he spies on them because they 'have nothing to hide', but he will get the terra-ists and anything he has to do if fine with them. Bill of Rights? Who cares if their hero is making them safe. The Dems are then portrayed as soft on the terra-ists. That's why Bush admitted the spying immediately. He KNOWS his people and knows they would love him spying, even if it is eavesdropping on them. This is why the Dems continue to lose- Bush portrays them as weak and he is tough. All this shows up in the polls when he pulls his tough guy act.

The occupation is not going to end favorably. They never do. We have asked all that we can of our military.

The growing Constitutional crisis is beyond the corporate media to spin. He violated his Presidential Oath of Office as written in the Constitution. That is a High Crime. It will become a larger story in the minds of many Americans over the next 11 months as they begin to wonder just who was being taped, and if they had anything to do with terra (sic).

Loss of privacy is a fear that has been instilled by the Republicans over the last twenty years. This one is going to bite them in the ass.

39. Okay.
#1 Occupational Forces have a very difficult road as evidenced by history. They do not fair well against an insurgency. I don't understand why people still call it a war. It is an occupation with a very active insurgency.

#2 The Presidential Oath of Office

Article II, Section 1, of the Constitution:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.

Fourth Amendment of the Constitution:

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Bush confessed on TeeVee that he violated the Fourth Amendment. Your fear does not trump my loss of Constitutionally protected freedoms. The President's job is to protect the Constitution. FISA offers the judicial oversight that the Fourth Amendment requires. FISA warrants are not that difficult to obtain, and can be applied for retroactively.

#3 Loss of privacy. Anytime the President want to get the goods on any American; he can order an illegal tap by the NSA. He wants to tap Patrick Fitzgerald's office, he will. He wants to tap political opponents, he will. I always ask Conservatives, if Hillary becomes president, will they back her warrantless searches and taps?

Can't think of a single reason why shrub's numbers have gone up.
But the latest economic data shows 4.1% GDP increase, and
unemployment numbers lower than in 4 years and incomes rising.

Big deal, it is just the business cycle topping out. Shrub can't
take credit for it. He has no idea why economy is good.

By the time 2008 rolls around economy could be declining or bottoming

And we already know the White House asks, and demands favors. I heard on Air America that when the NYT was about to put in the story about how Bush broke the law authorizing the wiretaps of anyone, Bush called the NYT to the WH and had a little "discussion" to encourage them NOT to publish the piece.

We already know that right wingers in the media are more than glad to help out Bush the criminal. Add to that the Bush administration's demands that the media LIE and COVER UP, and we've got lies flying like never before in the history of our nation.

Look at their record for 2004:

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/State%20by%20state%20comparisons%202004.htm

It was very good.

His poll might be the outlier, but since he keeps a rolling average and releases his data daily, trends can found earlier.

Dismissing any poll that shows improvements for Bush and then citing silly internet polls as backup only makes you look ridiculous.

50. Grrrr..... damned facts....
Of course Bush has been heavily marketing his view of the war, trotting out the ol' 9-11 rhetoric, and has been having his cabinet secretaries out dropping hints of a troop draw down. Package that with an actual election in Iraq (and a media who report the upside, purple fingers and all, and ignore all the post-election chaos that threatens to undo this election) and it's not all that surprising that Bush got a bounce.

Hell, for all its imperfections, I gotta say Iraq actually having an election IS a great piece of news and you really can't not credit Bush for pushing for exactly that. I'll give the devil his due. Getting a bounce back up to 50% really isn't all that impressive. But it is believeable.

52. Yes, they were very "accurate" in 2004.
But considering that there is mounting evidence that the "actual vote" was manipulated, that makes me question their reliability. Considering their close ties with the Republican Party, I have to wonder if there was some information sharing beyond simple polling.

Also, after following Rasmussen for quite some time I have found their polls consistently run 3-5% more in favor of Bush than EVERY OTHER POLL IN THE COUNTRY.

Since they do daily polling, I like to use them for trends (although, as you pointed out, they do a 3-day average despite the fact they release the results daily), I always mentally make a 3-5% adjustment when I look at their Bush approval ratings.

56. Agreed. I have come to the conclusion that Rasmussen is one -
- of the best pollsters out there based on their past results. Not only the 2004 results, but the VA Governor's race and other election predictions. Their record is on their website for all to see. I don't look at other polls but look instead at the trends at Rasmussen.

Rasmussen asks the same question consistently. Other polls ask different questions at different times and its hard to determine a trend. Internet polls are just a joke as they are all manipulated. It makes no sense to manipulate online polls and then actually believe the results.

61. Were Rasmussen's results good considering the stolen election?
Or not considering the stolen election?

When you exist in a dream world you only have to believe the numbers you want to.

49. This is bullshit
Remember that Rassmussen had Bush at 46% when everyone else had him at 35%.

51. 50-50, 51-49, 49-51...
The long and short of it is that this country is pretty much divided right down the middle.

60. And to the eyeores
who think this is accurate.. this is a bullshit outlier poll.

Approval ratings are subject to such scumbag tactics like was used here:
"approve of the way George W. Bush is performing his role as President." as opposed to "Do you apporve of the job that the president is doing?"

Guess which one polls higher regardless of the president?

Which part of the big words do you think threw them off? performing?

I call bullshit.
