Ann Coulter, Nutcase: "The government should be spying on all Arabs...
...engaging in torture as a televised spectator sport, dropping daisy cutters wantonly throughout the Middle East and sending liberals to Guantanamo"

http://mediamatters.org/items/200512220006

Coulter's comments came in her December 21 column, in which she used a December 19 New York Times investigative article on child pornography as part of her argument in favor of the NSA's spying program.

From Coulter's December 21 syndicated column:

Monday's Times carried a major expose on child molesters who use the Internet to lure their adolescent prey into performing sex acts for webcams. In the course of investigating the story, reporter Kurt Eichenwald broke open a massive network of pedophiles, rescued a young man who had been abused for years and led the Department of Justice to hundreds of child molesters.

I kept waiting for the catch, but apparently the Times does not yet believe pedophilia is covered by the "privacy right." They should stop covering politics and start covering more stories like this.

...

Which brings me to this week's scandal about No Such Agency spying on "Americans." I have difficulty ginning up much interest in this story inasmuch as I think the government should be spying on all Arabs, engaging in torture as a televised spectator sport, dropping daisy cutters wantonly throughout the Middle East and sending liberals to Guantanamo.

2. She's trying to be the female version of Rush.
The EXTREME makes headlines, ya know.

I was listening to a rerun of Mike Webb's show today, and some RW nut called and said "The Gov't should spy on EVERY American!" Her rationale is, if you check everybody, then you know you haven't missed terrorists!!!!!

Geesh! These people really don't think, do they?

3. My theory is that Ann Coulter..
..is an extremist liberal in disguise, who went through the conservative media training system, tried to take down the moderate-right Bill Clinton, and is now making the right-wing look like a bunch of wacked-out lunatics -- all as her lifelong scheme to take down the Republican Party from within.

She's doing a brilliant job.

In three years with the Democrats running everything, she'll have moved on to bigger and bigger things, co-running Media Matters for America with her secretly-good-friend David Brock.

4. She should be first for surveillance in a Democratic Administration
Maybe that will be in 2009, maybe in 2013. I don't know. But she will be watched when the Democrats get back in.

Do you believe that Ann Coulter thinks that the U.K. government should have sent George Orwell to some place like Guantanamo? I don't belive that she thinks that. Obviously she must have done some research that convinced her that George Orwell counts as at least an Honorary Republican.

8. Ann Coulter Guide To Winning Hearts And Minds
Step 1: Remove dictator from power in Iraq.

Step 2: Drop daisy cutters wantonly throughout Iraq.

Note: step 2 depends upon the results of pending research regarding the location of Iraq. Most scholars believe that Iraq is located in the Middle East. However, some analysts who have earned the trust of the current administration might disagree.

9. Anne Coulter's function

Is to provoke liberals into overreaction, and to enable Conservatives less extreme than her to cast themselves as moderates.

Any response other than a simple "Yes, I'm sure that's very clever dear, now where was I..." is superfluous, I feel.

A bit of insincere praise is a better response than an attempt at unbiased analysis?

20. In general, no, you're right.

In the case of Anne Coulther, and other similar writers I would say that no response is better than any response, but that if you must respond then the shorter and less substantial the reply the better.

I assume she loves censorship, so censor her bleepin' idiocy.

Problem is you don't know who is out there listening, taking it seriously, and might act on it or at least spread more hatred.

22. Ann Coulter is schtick. If there were still a vaudeville circuit she
could be a headliner. She is officially a right wing loonie. I notice that she doesn't seem to be as prevalent on the shows as she used to be. Remember the recent discussion of how come Republicans are humorless? She is a good example. But she herself thinks she is brilliantly witty and scathing. Pitiful

25. She's just an entertainer, not a political commentator.
She simply parrots 180 degree babbleage because it gets attention and makes her money.
She's an entertainer with a successful formula, like Howard Stern, just in a different direction.
The fact that people take her routine as real is what's strange to me.

26. I have the misfortune of working blue-collar,
with people who think like her. They would lock up people who criticize Bush, they think the earth is literally 5000 years old and that Darwin was a sham, they don't think people in our prison system should receive medical care, they think anyone who isn't as troll-knuckle dragging RW as they are is brainwashed. It's hard to describe just how mentally degenerated many Americans are, and still hold a job.
