Well I did it and it felt good
We had a Christmas party last night. Hey I am a Lutheran, and we relish a good party and i really like christmas. . . sue me.

Well it didn't take long for my neighbor, after a few coctails, to share his pearls of political wisdom. You know the mantra, "the President is committed to protecting the flock", the "evil liberals are taking away his tools to do that", he "has to be able to find the bad seeds among our midst".

With that I launched. . . "Bad seeds? You mean the Quakers right? Hey I must be a fellow traveler then, as my sister is a Quaker. You obviously support the concept that she is an enemy of the state. Hey guess what, she is standing right behind you right now, good thing she is a pacifist, but too bad for you I'm not gracious as she. Come to think of it I propably am under investigation as well because I support the ACLU! You know those folks that support those hard-won liberties that I, my father, and my father's father took to the field of battle to defend. Oh and about that "protect us" stuff, just what am I being protected from? Enemies who want to destroy my system of government? Dick and George stomping all over the legislative arm of the government and attempting to appoint grapefruit to the Supreme Court, would that be the kind of enemy your talking about? Perhaps its an enemy of our freedoms, you know those things like that pesky 4th ammendment, that is denied an American citizen each and every time the President issues an executive orer to initiate an illegal search without due process of law. Oh I think I have a grasp of who is the real set of enemies I need to be concerned about. They are the likes of you, a guy who would defend a userper of power through the currency of fear and party politics. Coward! It's time for you to leave. You are not fit to be called an American, you are a traitorous blight on all things free, honest, good about my country."

Appalled he rsponed. "You're not actually are throwing me out of your house?"

"Damn right. And until such a time as your President and his legal minions squander the rest of the bill of rights, I believe I still own this property and can make the decisions regarding who I shelter, who I break bread with, and who I choose to associate with socially. Good night and may God and the people I stand with have mercy on you poor misbeguided soul."

So that's the gist of the story. First, if they want to participate in support of the erosion of your rights, throw them fom your house. decide not to support their business. boycott their television and radio stations!! Then after enough of us have done that, it's time to throw the architects of this grand scheme out of the People's House, 1600 Penn Avenue!!!!!

I admit.. I didn't read all of the replies here (just the first 2 or 3) .. but I agree 100% with them...

why on earth are you apologizing?

12. It's time to treat these sheep like the livestock they are
Back home, sheep with scrapies, a disease of the CNS, were culled from the flock.

I intend to overtly "cull" these political sheep socially from my flock.

They are diseased traitors. They blindly support an administration hellbent on the destruction of our American way of life. The rights to life, liberty, happiness, freedom from establishment of state religion, freedom from illegal search and seizure, freedom to assemble and speak our midns.

It is high time the cold hard light of liberty shine down and expose these cockroaches for the scuttling vermin that they are. Forget the metered siscourse of the intellengensia. i getting ready to verbally abuse some freepers within earshot of my person.

25. Remember the era of the angry white man - the Contract on America?
They were absolutely belligerent: name-calling, talking over the so-called liberals on television. They were mad as hell and not going to take it anymore. They said they were tired of being ridiculed and treated like a minority (they were). Well, it's time to turn the tables. One of the reasons that the right became so obnoxious (other than a monopoly on television and radio and the vote counting) is because they have steamrolled over opposition. I agree that we can no longer afford to let them have the luxury of thinking their point of view is the center of the universe and that all others must approach on the knees. F* em. We can't be quiet any longer.

"I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore." When they accuse liberals of whining, I answer, "Does this sound like whining, asshole? I'm pissed. I'm not whining. I'm taking my country back from you."

When they tell me, "You're so angry," I tell them 2100 dead American kids and who knows how many thousands of innocent Iraqis and half a trillion spent on the war. Only an idiot isn't angry about that. Where are the WMD's, dipshit?

Good for you - you don't have to put up with that in your home, not at any time.

Maybe, if enough of us call them on their hate and turn our backs on them as they have the rest of our society, just maybe they will have an awaken and remove the cross and the flag from their eyes and let the light of truth in. Once they overcome the heart ache caused by their realizations they can stand with us as we reclaim our nation. (One can hope any way.)

13. Quakers have always been on the republican hit list.
You'll know we're really in trouble if THIS admin does as the Nixon WH did and declare members of Le Leche League subversives.

For those who don't recognize the reference, LLL is an organization of breast-feeding mothers who provide extra milk for infants in jeopardy...who can't digest formula and whose own mothers can't breast feed.

J Edgar rated LLL right under Quakers on the Nixon subversive list.

15. metaphor
I have a dog. It pees on the downstairs carpet. I've rationalized witht the dog. It looks at me, wags it's tail and still pees on the rig. I've monitored it's water intake. . .stills pees. frequent trips outside for walks and ball trhowing. Still pees. Trip to the vet for disease, none, and still pees on the rug. I'm not angry with the dog, it is doing what dogs do when they feel they must control territory. But I have come to understand that it is now a struggle to determine who actually owns the house, the dog or me, and not where exactly it pees.

but due to the metaphor, maybe not!

I have a Boston Terrier (known as the Boston Terrorist) who pees everywhere. We've tried everything. Drives us nuts. Thank God we have tile floors and good backs. But we love him.

Being from Boston, obviously he is Roman Catholic and a Ted Kennedy Democrat. As a matter of fact, he had a cousin named Jack after JFK.

That guy won't listen to reason. And he was insulting his host and his host's family. The least he could have done was just keep his insulting "opinions" to himself while enjoying the hospitality of a neighbor. He overstepped the bounds, he wasn't seduced into it.

27. I see this much as you do. No minds will be changed in this manner.
In fact, the unpleasantness will probably only escalate as it involved a neighbor. And the OP will get the reputation for being a less-than-gracious host.

Maybe I'm old-fashioned but I don't think anything good comes from inviting people into your home and then throwing them out for expressing a contrary opinion. It doesn't sound as though the neighbor was being aggressive or violent - which are the only reasons I would ask someone to leave. Barring that, the best thing to do would be just to not host parties in the future.

When in a social situation and politics are mentioned, I say "I don't discuss politics, religion or sex as every war I know of involved at least one of the three." That usually quickly turns the topic to sex! :-)

Does hospitality mean one has to accept anything a guest says or does?

What about the neighbor's manners?

How about "don't overstay your welcome"?

Maybe next time the neighbor will think before a starts spouting RW talking points which are downright insults to the host.

that you have every right to not have to listen to that carp he was starting to spout.

Pardon me, but it sounds even worse to me when it comes from a particular kind of drunk, usually a habitual one who always goes to the same dead horse.

I also believe you have a right to react from your heart to what the individual was saying and how he was saying it.

I assume he knew that your beliefs were quite different from what he was saying, I don't know.

I don't believe there is a right or wrong way to react. Everyone has limits as to what they are willing to put up with.

My repug sister mentioned that she has some family info re: Richard Stockton and Benjamin Rush that she is going to pass out to everyone at christmas time. (They are distant relatives of ours- Can you believe it?).

So, I am planning on giving a 'little speech' at the time. I am all fired up about it and hubbie is going to video tape my speech to the family! IT IS PAST TIME TO SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER!

38. I like your rant, but remember the old saying;

"don't discuss politics and religion" it always ends up heated.

Tonight is my dinner party, and the simple rule is no arguing on Xmas, period, end of story.

It's simple and it works.

I can't stand my next store, sloppo, neighbor, but since we both own our homes, we are forced to bite the bullet and get along.

I hope your neighbor isn't too close. LOL!!

Happy holidays!!

Never be afraid to tell it like it is.

I think some of the deeply initiated Rethug supporters have truly and honestly never heard an alternate opinion - at least not in person from a live human being, though they've surely heard a lot about the liberal boogeyman from their talk-radio idols. They can't really imagine someone they know - a neighbor, a co-worker, an acquaintance - not thinking as they do. They need a wake-up call, and they need to be confronted with the facts. And even if the person you're talking to doesn't get it, you will certainly have a positive impact on someone who witnesses the scene.

Nicely done.

49. hmm.... could really liven up family gatherings!
Wow, maybe I should try this on the Republican in-laws when the come over tomorrow for Christmas Eve dinner.
Then again, maybe not. But man, the thought of it cheers me up! Congrats for having the courage of your
conviction.

I worry a b it that being this rude to morons doesn't necessarily help bring people closer together. But then again, what's it gonna
take to get people to wake up and smell the coffee?

Maybe in the future it will be determined who you socialize with depending on which side of your body is dominant. I've been a 'lefty' all my life!
