I am appalled at the lack of outrage from our Demo leaders. Every day
more assaults on the Constitution and democracy are revealed and little or no reaction from our Demo leaders and representatives. What in the hell are they waiting for. I believe there is a point of no return for democracy in America and I hope to hell we haven't already passed it. Tyranny is upon us. Help!

1. Outrage doesn't seem to work anymore.
People stand up and yell and jump up and down and it just kind of echoes down an empty chamber.

12. Yes i agree, but outrage is a reaction not a method. Everyday i am
outraged by what the Republicans are getting away with. Looking to my demo representatives and seeing no reaction worries me. How far will they let this march to tyranny go before they do something.

Run around in circles waving their hands in the air?

Some things are better left to adults, don't you think?

7. I certainly don't want them to continue hiding under their desks, hoping
this will all blow over. They have access to the media. Press conferences pointing out to the voting public all the atrocities. The corp media can play these issues down, but our leaders can bring attention. We need to take a lesson from their playbook. Continue telling the truth until the public gets it. Introduce legislation like John Conyers. Speak out for democracy's sake. Hillary seems to be worried about flag burning.

22. I think that our Democratic leaders are doing a FINE job and they're doing
The best that they can under incredibly difficult circumstances.

Our Senate Democrats for example, they need a medal for having to go into the Senate each day and sit there listening to all of the horsecrap from Frist, Hatch, Santorum et al...Jaysus, they need a medal for JUST having to LISTEN to the whiney voiced Jeff Sessions.

but I'm sick of the glancing blows. Dems need to say that a criminal gang is trying to take over the country, and it needs to be stopped.

36. Bravo, I agree completely. I was beginning to think I was the only one
to think that. A lot of responders seem to think every thing is going fine. Doing a fine job, meanwhile Bushco is openly, assaulting the Constitution, destroying unions, stealing money from retirees, giving billions to his friends. Please tell me if this doesn't deserve outrage. It won't be easy to stop but we must at least slow the momentum. It may take some well-known demo's to openly state that Bushco is destroying the Country which will be risky for them. A little red-faced screaming outrage might wake up some of the apathetic.

6. in ain't the dem leaders, it's the banana republican media
if the media actually rewarded democrats for standing up for our rights, they'd be falling over themselves to give their best patrick henry impersonation.

but instead, the media either cuts off their microphone, airs their story on page 27d, at 3am, and then runs the banana republican smears that democrats are traitors on page 1, in prime time.

do you think our democratic politicians are that stupid at politics? they know what plays and what doesn't.

if you see direct mail from democratic politicians, or hear a speech that is NOT getting national coverage, they sound exactly like the leaders you want. when they can bypass the national media, they can do this. but it just doesn't work when the banana republicans control the national microphone.

10. So are you saying that if my Sen Murray calls a press conference
and states that she is against domestic spying and torture, that she will get no coverage? She, as many others have not even stated their opinion on torture. I guess it is ok with them. You say they know what plays, but the Demo have not shown that since 2000. Apparently what the republicans are doing plays.

16. what i'm saying is try to catch senator murray at the next local speech
senators do occassionally come home and make quiet speeches to rotary clubs and churches or whatever, and the national media doesn't always bother with every one of these.

catch one of those speeches and i'll bet you'll be surprised at the difference in what you hear when the national media isn't inserted between you and your democratic leaders.

28. I doubt she would get ANY real national coverage
Consider that, among others, Senator Kerry, the last Democratic nominee, spoke against BOTH Domestic Spying and torture this past week. Domestic spying with Ed Shultz and Bill Press. Torture in both his Senate speech and in the Democratic news conference on ANWR.

I think Kerry is as high profile a Democrat as we have - except for the Clintons - how much coverage was he given? (Compare to the coverage given in 1997 to Bob Dole - who last by a much larger margin and did Viagra and Pepsi (where he leered at an underage Brittany Spears) commercials.)

19. Yes, but I also think public outrage can spur
Republicans to cooperate. The spying incident is a perfect opportunity because it is clearly a crime everyone can understand. Even those who are trying to spin it in Bush's favor are focused on the legal aspect of it. The public understands what happened. If the pro-Bush spin is debunked, the public outrage will follow, IMO.

17. They are just as outrages as you and I.
They don't have the luxury of being able to be impulsive and confrontational. They channel their disgust in a whole different fashion than we do because they are under a microscope. The right wing will chew them up and spit them out for breakfast.....There is a covert way of dealing with them and "in your face" is not it.

Edited on Sat Dec-24-05 09:10 AM by rhett o rick
to be passionately opposed to this tyrannical administration? Am I wrong to expect more of our Democratic representatives to speak out? There are a few that are speaking out, but I would like to see more. I see Democracy as crumbling at a rapid rate. Am I wrong? We haven't ended the WAr, stopped torture, stopped the spying, stopped the whole-sale erosion of the Constitution, stopped the attack on our environment, etc, etc. Yes I am passionate about stopping this rush to tyranny and want more Democrats to be also. If I am wrong, I apologize. Apathy will kill us.

I mean, shouting and screaming can only get so much when you're a minority party...There's only so much coverage you can get by this whore media. Even the higheest profile Dems (like Kerry) just don't get that much airtime.

me that the Democrats are fighting a forest fire with a garden hose. You make an important point, "there is only so much coverage you can get by the whore media,". Absolutely. Our goal is to do just that. Figure out how to get the message out. The internet is one way. But we have to get the truth out to the people or we are lost.
