Has Bill Clinton commented on Bush spying?
The Republicans are accusing both Clinton and Carter of doing the same thing in their talking points. Have Clinton or Carter commented to set the record straight? It sure would help if they would.

5. This is a little different than the swiftboat situation....
You are correct about the main similarity...blatent lying.

The difference is that here the lying is much more easily demonstrated.

It is already being challanged in MSM...and I suspect the noise will grow. MSM has it's hooks into this story, and I can almost hear the gears turning and keyboards clackin' on this one.

9. Timing is everthing. It will have more impact in a few days or longer...
let the media pundits and bloggers run with it now.

President Clinton is right to wait. It will be an issue for a long time.

It's also smart to avoid the critisism about past Presidents interfering with present ones. That would detract from the issue now rather than help it, but in a couple weeks once the initial reaction settles down his voice will be listened to with interest and without critisism.

13. I agree with you.
Wait a couple of weeks. Let the Holidays settle down and let the Senate settle down with the Patriot Act. There's no reason in taking any chance in losing this in the shuffle. Plus, we don't want to look like them and pile everything on at once. We have to be very careful in choosing our fights, we want to be the inclusive party not the mean one. Spygate is not going away.

4. Yeah, Clinton and Carter..
.. sure are quiet.

If my name and reputation were being besmirched like that, I know
I wouldn't be quiet about it.

WTF?

6. I've observed that BC
doesn't reduce himself to these smears and lets others clarify, otherwise he'd be on tv everyday.

7. BUT...by speaking out
...he could kill the talking points and set the record straight. I think that is important.

10. So, do you have a theory why they haven't come out with a statement?
Edited on Thu Dec-22-05 08:38 PM by radio4progressives
or maybe it would be stating the obvious?

Like maybe *part* of the reason why the FISA court was set up in the first place under Carter, was because the FBI and the CIA under the Carter administration was possibly involved in similar activy? (i know all of the reports during the 60's and early 70's from the FSM to the Civil Rights to the Anti War activists were spied on, during Johnson and Nixon and Ford but could have continued under Carter?)

And Clinton, well we've been over this in the past few days and i won't get into all that again, (regarding Carnivore and Eschelon).

But this is a problem for Hillary too, isn't it?

my theories are (not) fully fleshed out, but i'd be interested to hear yours.. ?

12. Well, I don't have a theory...
I just wonder why they haven't. Could it be that they did it as well? Their silence could leave some to wonder. I imagine many Republicans who are angered by this would be curious as well. It's great that the media is on this, but it would help with their voices as well.

14. Their Silence has been Deafening...
one might be compelled to conclude that there is a case to be made.

in fact the Aldridge Aimes Espionage case is one that was made with illegal wire taps, it has been suggested that FISA was not used, but it isn't known because the case never went to trial, so all the "evidence" gathered was never released.

That was during the Clinton administration.

please see my "People Hear Me" thread, to shift the focus on what's really important.
