Bill O'Reilly edited Dingell poem to characterize it as a Fox News attack
O'Reilly, Olbermann showed different versions of Dingell Christmas poem

http://mediamatters.org/items/200512160007

The December 15 editions of both Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor and MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann aired portions of a poem by Rep. John Dingell (D-MI) attacking Fox News host Bill O'Reilly's claim that there is a "war" on Christmas. Yet, the clip O'Reilly played on his show omitted the stanzas imploring Congress to discuss other, more important issues. Dingell read his poem on the House floor prior to the passage of a resolution (House Resolution 579) calling for support of "the symbols and traditions of Christmas." The vote was 401 for and 22 against, with 228 Republicans, 172 Democrats, and one independent voting in favor of the measure. Twenty-two Democrats voted against it. The poem suggests that the legislature's time might be better spent on other things.

O'Reilly's edited version characterized the poem as merely a malevolent attack on Fox News and The O'Reilly Factor. But other portions of the poem that were aired on Countdown to accompany a Dingell interview, focused on preventing the so-called "war" on Christmas from distracting from topics like Hurricane Katrina relief, the war in Iraq, and energy prices.

From the December 15 edition of Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor:

O'REILLY: In "The Factor" follow-up segment, tonight, Congressman John Dingell, a committed liberal, took to the House floor yesterday to discuss the Christmas controversy, and me, in verse.

1. DildO'Reilly thinks everything is about him.
Freakin' megalomaniac. IMO, maybe the best thing for everybody to do, instead of satirizing him, is ignore him completely. He is worthy only of ignorage.

Cue music: You're so vain, you think this song is about you, don't you, don't you...

3. I have said that for years. DO NOT watch FOX, listen to FOX radio,
go to the O'Lie'Face web site or otherwise engage these miserable excuses for humanity.

Its your choice. You choose to legitimize him by watching and responding to him.

When Murdocks goons see ratings going down O'Lie'Face will be gone.

6. Damn straight
Shrill O'Lielly needs to be immediately transferred to a rubber room at the nearest inpatient mental health facility. This excuse for a man is absolutely insane and needs to be protected from himself.

4. Why did O'Reilly edit out the names Hannity and Coulter?
Is it that being associated with those two admitted Consurpatives would endanger his "independent" ruse? Inquiring minds want to know Bill.

That Dingell poem is one for the ages...

5. Does it really surprise anyone that Bill fudged the facts to suit his ends

and Keith, as usual, told the truth?

Not me. Keith even had to correct himself when he was initially under the impression that the resolution did not pass, and Dingell told him that it did.

That's the way Keith is. If he learns that he made a mistake, he admits it and corrects it. O'Reilly just tries to fudge it, lie about it, blame it on other people (usually his "enemies"), or call it "satire" that other people just FAILED TO UNDERSTAND.

And the idea that he operates a "No-Spin Zone" is a sheer joke. Look at how he tried to spin all of this as an attack on himself!
