Kucinich is really the only one I think being "ignored"...
Edited on Fri Jan-30-04 09:03 AM by vi5
I hear from a lot of different supporters of different candidates on here that their guy is being ignored or that their message is not getting out. I know in the heat of campaign season it seems that way, but I think most of them have had their moments in the sun as far as the media glare goes. But when we are close to a situation emotionally I think it's hard to see. We may get credit or press at a time when we don't really appreciate it but then complain when we get know credit for something we think we deserve. That's just human nature.

But Kucinich is really the only candidate who when I talk to non-political junkies, have no idea who he is or what he stands for. Most don't even know that he is running. They are even more aware of Sharpton than they are of Dennis, and I think that's a shame.

And this is obviously borne out by the polls and the numbers as well. I don't think any candidate who has gotten the percentages than Kerry, Clark, Edwards, or Dean has either at the primaries or as far as national name recognition can say they are not getting any attention. And at some point over the past year they've all been the darling of the media, especially if you believe the adage about the only bad publicity being no publicity.

Personally I'm a huge fan of all of our candidates and could get behind any of them enthusiastically. I have a different favorite each day and that's not really a bad thing to be able to say, to have such an impressive slate. I'm not a Kucinich supporter myself but I can see that really, Kucinich is the only one who I'm seeing as getting the short end of the media stick in this whole race. I'm sure supporters of every candidate will disagree and perhaps flame me for saying this but so be it.

1. say what you will about Tom Brokaw
he didn't ignore Kucinich last night. It was one of the few times when I can remember Kucinich not being an afterthought in the debates.

3. That's good to hear.
I didn't get home in time for the debate.

5. That is true
and he did not try to shut him up when he corrected what Tom said. I thought it was very nice to actually hear them without a buzzer and without someone interrupting them constantly a la Judy Woodruf. Tom seemed willing to try to set things up to look good for Bush* but unwilling to stop them from having their say. I think Dennis had his best debate and probably the most time he has ever gotten.

6. Shocked the hell out of me!
I lost all respect for Peter Jennings whom I'd liked quite a bit until his little pot-shot at Kucinich, and gained a ton of respect for Brokaw last night.

7. Thanks, VI5. I agree with you, and my "research" bears out yours
I mention that I support Kucinich and nearly everyone says "Who's that? Never heard of him."

If Dennis starts getting real coverage, it'll be because the media thinks Kerry (or someone) has the nomination sewn up and so the heat's off.

8. As cold as this sounds, I'd almost prefer...
If when I talked to people that they had reasons for not liking Dennis's message or positions. Even if they were totally superficial reasons (looks, voice, demeanor), at least that person would know who he was. But when they can't even offer idiotic or superficial reasons for not liking him then that to me is "ignoring him".

I know of Dennis. I like Dennis. He's not my candidate or even in the top tier to be honest with you.

But reading of other supporters complain that their candidate is being ignored simply because the media have at this point found another darling (which they will again next week, and the week after, etc.) seems a bit disingenuous when compared to Kucinich's non-existent profile in the media.

9. thank you for validating this though
I agree...I talk to people every chance I get and hand them a DK card or flash my button and they are like.."who's he?" (of course I tell them :)

Very disheartening...but I agree that Tom Brokaw did a much better job than Jenning( whoremedia sellout) & others.

Dennis deserves to beheard and hopefully that will change in the days ahead.

damn frustrating tho!

Peace
