Regarding the story of the KIA soldier coming back via commercial freight
Edited on Tue Dec-13-05 01:53 PM by SunDrop23
Spoke to a freeper coworker about it who said "what difference does it make how they get back, just so long as they get back. They are dead and they don't care anymore."

1. Too bad it wasn't that freeper co-worker in the box instead.

2. Ask the freeper
why we should treat our worn-out American Flags with more respect than our fallen soldiers?

3. That's not the point, really.
How would this freep feel if they had to go pick up a loved one in a box on a forklift like that? Maybe the dead soldier didn't care anymore, but what about his family?

4. Well of course his family wouldn't care...you see, I asked him
that very question and he said his family "could care less how he came back. It wouldn't be a big deal. You see we are not Bush-haters like you."

What one has to do with the other is beyond me, BUT I can tell you this is NOT abnormal thought in the southeastern US.

5. Ah, I get it now.
Wait a minute, no I don't...

Maybe his family, really wouldn't care, maybe he really is that big of an asshole.

On a side note, I just realized this is post #420 for me! Woo hoo! I'm at work, so I'll have to wait till I get home to celebrate.

6. My understanding is that bodies are shipped by commercial
freight all the time. Whenever someone dies far from home, and has to be shipped home for burial.

There should, however, be an honor guard waiting at the tarmac for these particular bodies. Maybe, provided by the local recruiting station.

7. And there we have it
I wasn't quite sure what change would be made by the folks who object to shipment as freight. I doubt they are suggesting the body be given a space in the passenger cabin.

A waiting honor guard seems an elegant solution.

That the families who have lost loved ones in Iraq should be treated like this, then he is a major asshole. Support the troops my ass.
