Bush Fails Again With Latest Iraq Speech

Washington, DC - Democratic National Committee Communications Director
Karen Finney issued the following release on President Bush's latest
speech on Iraq today and his failed, stay-the-course strategy:

"Democrats applaud the Iraqi people on their upcoming historic
elections and urge all Iraqis to go to the polls. While it is imperative
that the Iraqi people be able to govern and protect themselves so our
troops can come home, elections are not enough.

"The fact of the matter is after three speeches in twelve days, the
American people still have no idea what benchmarks need to be met before
our troops can come home. After promising to lay out a clear strategy to
the American people and with his poll numbers on Iraq still low,
President Bush has offered little more than rhetoric, vague promises and
more sloganeering. Today, he again repeated the false link between
September 11th and the War in Iraq. America can do better and Iraq can
only do better if President Bush lays out an honest and straightforward
roadmap to success."
