...but it's clearly not gotten the same level of research that the Wiki GOP celeb page has.

Edited on Mon Dec-12-05 05:55 PM by tridim
Half of them aren't famous and the rest are already well known as republicans.

A large list would be "famous Democrats". Then again you could just write, "everyone else" and be done with it.

If Brad is 4'10" and you state that "Brad is tall" it might be true relative to 4'6" people, but on average Brad would still be considered short.

FIND ANOTHER, BIGGER REPUBLICAN CELEBRITY LIST THEN!

My goodness, I go out of my way to post this and people are on my back about it's size.

I never once compared it to the Democratic list or even implied it was close. I simply said it was large. Nearly 200 Republicans celebrities is large - do you know of a bigger one?!?!?

Sorry for posting, way to drive people away from the site. I just donated today and am starting to regret it.

22. You know, I think those lists pretty much speak for themselves

Reptilicans (how proud they must be to count themselves among racists, homophobes, misogynists and mass murderers)

Don King
Ron Silver
Phil Spector
Dennis Hopper
Fred Grandy
Dean Cain
Shirley Jones
Dean Jones
Tony Danza
Bo Derek
Scott Baio
Pat Boone

Democrats

Robin Williams
Brad Pitt
Robert Deniro
Meryl Streep
John Travolta
George Clooney
Glenn Close
Matt Damon
Leonardo DiCaprio
Jane Fonda
Harrison Ford
Tommy Lee Jones
Tom Hanks
Dustin Hoffman
Nicole Kidman
Paul Newman
Jack Nicholson
Leonard Nimoy
Gwyneth Paltrow
Sean Penn
Robert Redford
Chris Rock
Tim Robbins
Susan Sarandon
Martin Sheen
Christian Slater
Kevin Spacey
Steven Spielberg
Barbra Streisand
Sharon Stone
Charlize Theron
Ted Turner
Alice Walker
Bruce Springsteen
Lewis Black

Yeah, they pretty much speak for themselves.

The only one that surprised me from the Regressives was Robert Duvall, and for reasons that make as much sense as being a Republican because Abraham Lincoln was one.

26. Some of those on the reptilian list donate to Democrats too..
Scott Baio for example has given $1000 to a candidate in each party.

The only "Phil Spector" I could find on Newsmeat has only donated to one candidate, $900.00 to John Kerry. (Who knows if it's the same Phil Spector.. but it's the only one showing a donation)

Tony Danza has donated to both parties.

And I didn't check anyone else..

Are they hurting so bad to call them Rethugs that they add them to their list even if they donate to different parties?

44. Dolly Parton being listed as a Repug surprised me, too
Especially considering the several antiwar choices on her recent covers album.

I was disappointed to see Dwight Yoakum listed as a 'pug as well. He's a pretty good country singer, and I didn't figure his politics would be in the Brooks and Dunn/ Travis Tritt vein.

She's married to Hal Holbrook. He did a few episodes of DESIGNING WOMEN playing her boyfriend although his character was later killed off. He's probably best known for playing Mark Twain in a one-man show. Wasn't he also the "Deep Throat" character in the movie version of ALL THE PRESIDENT's MEN? I see he was on THE WEST WING too.

Incidentally, I'm pretty sure Hal's a Democrat

...don henley has always struck me as an asshole. but looking at newsmeat, it's hard to ignore that he's apparently given like $700,000 over the past 25 years to democratic candidates like barbara boxer, ted kennedy, and harry reid, as well as progressive causes, including america coming together and emily's list. so now i guess he's an asshole with whom i happen to have much in common politically.

the $2000 to kay bailey hutchison earlier this year is a little tough to explain, though.

59. Damn. Robert Duvall's reasoning is amazingly stupid.
Edited on Tue Dec-13-05 07:03 PM by quiet.american
"One guy asked me, 'How can you be an actor and be a Republican?' I can vote either way. But how can you boil it down to <political affiliation>? All the atrocities against blacks in the South were committed by Democratic sheriffs."

If he really said this, he's amazingly uninformed. It was those same Democratic sheriffs who went screaming for the Republican party when civil rights legislation passed under a Democratic president. Amongst other things.

He's got to be smarter than that.

He's got to be smarter than that.
I feel the same way about many comments in here. BTW, that legislation nearly started a civil war in the overly Democratic South.

69. Yes, I know -- hence the word "Dixiecrat." :)
I've always found it fascinating that civil rights legislation (essentially, long overdue decency) caused a mass exodus from the Democratic Party to the GOP in the South. But kudos to the brave souls who remained with the Democratic Party to stand up for their fellow man.

63. Newsmeat is somewhat misleading
They have contribution information for like the past 25 years. So someone may have donated to a local republican 20 years ago but that doesn't make them a republican. Hell, I confess to voting for Tom Ridge for governor once and trust me, I'm as blue as they come (I wouldn't do it again not because of him being the Homeland security stooge but only because I won't vote for a republican EVER - not even my very liberal republican representative Mike Castle).

Talent doesn't have a partisan affiliation. I've loved all of Schwarzennegar's movies. I wish he'd go back to making them.

Jeffrey Katzenberg, Norman Lear, Rob Reiner, Sidney Pollack, Barbra Streisand, Marc Andreesen, Denise Rich -- these seem to be the heavy hitters in campaign donations to Democrats.

He appeared at the GOP Convention in 2004. Now a born-again Christian spoke at that convention. Reportedly backed Bush.

Second, most of these people are dead, has-beens, or 'never heard of'.

I'll take Clooney, Robbins, Susan S., Jon Stewart, and Chuck D. over anyone on any list they would ever put out.
