Our service economy......with low wages
I was leaving a cafeteria style restaurant this evening and a woman who had been working inside was getting into her car. It was a little after 8pm. My wife struck up a short conversation with her, something to the effect that it was quitting time. She said she was heading to her SECOND FULL TIME job at Walmart. She worked there after her cafeteria job from 9pm until 5am. Since they are probably both minimum wage or close type jobs, she's putting in 16 hours a day, 80 hours/week. she's a single mom with a 14 year old son and a second child of unknown age having to work 80 frigging hours a week. Unbelievable. All I could think about was *'s family values BS, repuke's fighting against higher wages. We are living through the the early 20th century again, the robber barons have risen like vampires from their crypts.

He applauded a single mother working three jobs to make ends meet during his campaign.

Corporate global profit is his only concern.

4. You know all those new jobs that were added in November?
The Labor Department said November goods-producing employment rose by 50,000 jobs.

The manufacturing sector increased payrolls by 11,000 jobs, after adding 15,000 in October.

The construction sector added 37,000 jobs last month. "Some of the recent job gains in construction reflect rebuilding and cleanup efforts following Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma," Utgoff said.

Service-providing employment went up by 165,000. Retail jobs rose by 9,000.

Growth resumed in food services and drinking places, with jobs up by 39,000

5. I want to know
how long it will be before people won't even be able to get crappy retail jobs. Already at the grocery store we have self checkout, online shopping without need for clerks, sales people et al, I have noticed that restaurants are doing much more to-go business than instore business which most customers do not tip on.... Its really horrible that people like this woman have to work 80 hours each week, but what is going to happen when she can't even get jobs like the ones she has? It took me 4 months to get to get a part time job and I have not yet been able to find a second job or another job better than what I have over the several months since I got my part-time job. (Though I am crosing my fingers for an interview I have tomorrow)
