Bush "determined to stay the course," needs Hughes to "get back on track"
The war, CIA leak probe and slumping poll numbers are taking their toll at the White House and aides and advisers have "circled the wagons," beginning to think that President Bush must reconsider his course and take extreme measures to turn things around, according to early editions of Sunday's New York Daily News, RAW STORY has learned.

The newspaper describes the West Wing as "Fortress White House," with unnamed sources lamenting that Bush is "still determined to stay the course," amid advice and criticism from Republicans and the media.

"The President has always been willing to make changes, but not because someone in this town tells him to. Never!" the paper quotes a senior aide as saying.

nsiders have soured on Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and some are even down on senior aide Karl Rove for leaving spokesman Scott McClellan flapping on the wind over the CIA leak investigation. Bush loyalists think the president needs to recall Karen Hughes from the State Department to help get him back on track, the paper reports.

1. Well, someon better bring that 'bull in a china shop' Hughes home
before she pisses off the remainder of the world. Big Momma to the rescue.

Do you suppose she's some sort of Bab's cloning gone bad?

3. If you crossed Nurse Ratchett (sp?) from Kesey's CUCKOO'S NEST and
June Cleaver, you'd come up with somebody close to Karen Hughes, and then you implant the gene for craven manipulation somewhere in its brain and then you WOULD have Karen Hughes.

For all I know the woman may have some virtues. One of them is not in public service, and I hope she is passed over as a rescue artist for Dubya's poll problems.

Bush can't bring in fresh, capable outside help because those would be people who swiftly see how much corruption has actually occurred, and they would be on the phone to the press in a heartbeat. Hughes' return to the White House would be just a continuation of incestous hiring practices.

4. Karen Huge is shoring up our country's image.........
she's globetrotting and spreading the word that the Bush administration is NOT a bunch of arrogant, tyrannical imperialists, so stop saying that!
She's far too valuable in that capacity  and could never spare the time to get her little pet chimp's poll numbers reversed. Besides, THIS White House doesn't make decisions based on polls, remember?
Karen has been about as effective in convincing the world that Bush is a great guy as Laura has been effective in cleaning up the "gang problem" that her hubby put her in charge of. How's that "gang problem" going anyway, Laura? Have the gangbangers all put down their guns and made peace now that you're the "gang czar"? Just wondering!

6. Bring back Karen Hughes??? Like she's got a magic wand or something?
It's gonna take Karen Hughes to clean up the mess he's made? Oh yeah. That'll work. Put Karen Hughes on it. That's all you need.

Ummm... seems like this is a little bit bigger than Big Mama Manipulator Karen Hughes can handle. JEEZ - it's all about the PR with these people, isn't it? If you just fix the PERCEPTION, you've addressed the problem. Except that the problem itself remains and doesn't get any better.

Her trip overseas was SUCH a ROUSING success, why not redeploy her for more miracle-working here, then?

Yeah... suuuuuuuuuuure. Yeah, THAT'S the ticket. THAT'LL work!

Intriguing note that just struck me - NOW the inside voices are crying out for Karen Hughes? Karen Hughes is just the thing? Well - what happened to Mr. Wonderboy, kkkarl rove? Wasn't HE just the thing? Or is that just so yesterday? Now they're saying Karen Hughes is the Superman who'll swoop in with her magic flying cape and just fix everything? I thought that magic invincible cure-all schtick was rove's. MOST intriguing. Evidently if there are murmurs like this circulating now, it's a signal that ol' turdblossom is no longer all he's cracked up to be in some insiders' estimation. Maybe he, too, now, really is damaged goods. It used to be that the only thing the doctor ever ordered for this bunch was to sic kkarl on 'em whenever there was a problem. Now they're saying Karen Hughes is the one needed? It does signal how kkkarl has evidently fallen out of favor. It's also pretty funny that things have grown so bad inside this White House that they think kkkarl by himself isn't enough anymore. On THAT, at least, they'd be quite correct. But just bringing in a different hit man (or in this case, a hit man in a skirt) isn't gonna be enough to do it. You need a WHOLESALE change in policy AND policy-pushers. If you think you can stay the same course that's leading you onto the rocks - just by bringing in a different navigator (with the same bad maps and instruction and poor eyesight) - you'll ram the rocks anyway and tear your hull to splinters.

It just shows the one-dimensional thinking of some of the operatives here. They still want to stick with the same team people who helped get us all into this fiasco.
