I'm off to "Meet the RW F*ckers" Plz give me talking points!
A trip to Wisconsin, family wedding. Strong, if small, redoubt of RW apologists (both lawyers, one a former DA, both smirking Republicans). Sorry to say even tho it's a wedding, these guys take no enemies and they gang up.

Need rebuttals on talking points. What do you think they will throw at me (I am their most inviting target as a self proclaimed LIBERAL and damn proud of it)? I know they must be on the ropes at this point but I just feel in my bones that they've got some bullets (or think they do).

Help needed!

The final U.S. report by our military on Iraqi WMD was that Saddam had in fact complied with the sanctions and had no illegal WMD's. Not "He smuggled them out of the country", not "They're buried somewhere in the middle of the desert".

33. That's alright but what you do is ignore them when they say those things
and just keep the focus on the victims. You heard this...you saw that...you wondered where this was...how about the costs..whew...just makes your head spin, etc. If you can pull this off you'll be ready for Hollywood kid. Just try not to laugh when they (a. try to argue you away from feeling sorry for the people (b. try to change the subject (c. accuse you of trying to pick a fight with them (d. get pissed and go in another room.

If you can hang onto your acting, I guarantee you'll have enough to laugh about for a month. Just don't take your foot off the pity pedal.

If they say things like, "If they worked for a living they'd have something and we wouldn't have to support them", you say, "You could be right, what got me was that old woman in front of the superdome dead as door nail for lack of water...God there she was in the sun, rotting away under that blanket for three days...just makes you wonder if you're next!"

13. You should discuss the facts about voting in America.
Especially this one:
4. The chairman and CEO of Diebold is a major Bush campaign organizer and donor who wrote in 2003 that he was "committed to helping Ohio deliver its electoral votes to the president next year."

Source:http://nightweed.com/usavotefacts.html

You should also talk about our failing economy, and the damage out-sourcing is doing to this country.

15. Just remind them that you can be an honest child of Christ ----- and
in your own home you expect them to follow your rules, but in public you would expect them to be tolerant of all other religions and life styles, as did Jesus. The hard line will give them someone to follow. Oh, they will be a bit confused, but they will become respectful and on alert not to make disparaging comments about others. It worked for me.They are really not too comfortable when you have Jesus on your side.

18. A few of my favorite comebacks
If everything's going so great in Iraq, why are we still there?

If the Iraqis are so happy to have us there, why do they keep killing us?

So what's the reason we invaded Iraq this week? It changes so often, I can't keep up.

"Insurgents"? If somebody invaded the U.S., tell me you wouldn't take up arms to defend your country against the invaders.

Have you even heard of the Downing Street Memo?

Yeah, Clinton was chasing Osama -- and foiled numerous terrorists plots on U.S. soil I bet you never even heard of... like bombing the Holland Tunnel.

Clinton, Clinton, Clinton... How long are you going to blame Clinton for Bush's screw-ups of the last five years?

I'd rather have a president screwing his mistress than screwing the whole country.

I got a million of 'em (thanks to far too much practice with Cousin Reichbot), but those should jumpstart your thinking. And remember: Stand strong! You ARE confident in what you know, so show it!

28. The questions work better...
...than the statements. Question every statement they make, let them talk, then question again.

That's straight out of the Repuke playbook: Keep throwing the ball back in their court, and keep them on the defensive.

The best part is, the more they're forced to defend their beliefs, the more they contradict themselves, and the more ammo they give you for your next question. (And the stupider they appear to onlookers.)

Works like a charm, if you have the endurance. :)

30. Yeah, I have a great time. I'm going to try out
my newest weapon: satire and ridicule. What I really want to try out is the whole Jeff Gannon story. It's going to be "my personal favorite Republican" and I'll bring it up a propos of nothing. Then I will go on and on about Gannon's faux background, his access to the pres. in spite of his alias, his web links to male gay prostie sites, his "weenie on the web" photo displying his "attributes," his price list for services rendered and his wonderful testimonials page, from "satisfied" customers. I will be as graphic as I can be, given the circumstances, and just be as tantalizing and as incriminating as possible. It will be one of the evening's great entertainments. All in fun, of course! No political inferences at all!!!

34. Whenever the opportunity arises, I always initially refer to Gannon as
"the male homosexual prostitute hired by the GOP to work the Bush White House"

This usually stuns any of Bush's followers into temporary silence or ballistic, foaming at the mouth, anger. It also creates a lot of curiosity among any independent minded or nonpolitical people present who always ask for more information.

so I some advice for you. Always go prepared. Ask what this administration has done for them personally. If they come back with a tax break ask them have your health care gone up their utilities gas electric oil etc. If they say they are safer your answer yeah sure he handled Katrina so well. The war in Iraq Bush campaigned in 2000 that he did not believe in nation building. Oh yea I have more what about illegals he handled that one well. Our boarders are open wide and giving them guest worker passes it just a great idea. Lets not go after the companies hiring them. 31. Which type of republicans are they?
Although I sometimes ask my republican family members and acquaintances the general question:
"Just how fucking stupid are you?"
presenting information for a more detailed rebuttal depends on whether they are:

Tax Cut Monkeys;
Reich wing religious hate mongers;
Cheap labor advocates;
All greed and no empathy sociopaths;
Racists and bigots; or
Shittoheads.

Regardless of the type of republicans they are, injecting the comment
"How very republican"
after one of their more odious rants probably will annoy them greatly and have a positive influence on any independent minded listeners.

36. If they are true conservatives
they should hate what Bush is doing. Pick up a copy of "They Bush Betrayal" written by James Bovard. He's a conservative/libertarian.

Your cousins might be prepared to argue liberal talking points but they might be a little less prepared to deal with the criticisms from conservatives. This is particularly evident in the way Bush has grown government - billions of dollars to the TSA, yet the screeners aren't really any more prepared than they were before. True conservatives aren't thrilled about BushCo's eroding of civil liberites.

Bush has been a disaster, not just to liberals, but to conservatives as well.

44. Yes, question, question, question...
and watch them tie themselves in knots. And yes, be prepared, because they've probably filtered well-known, unpleasant facts out of their brains (many Repubs, even Dick Cheney, are now saying things that contradict the widely-held beliefs of their supporters.) Here are few queries that come to my mind, all asked with angelic innocence:

Do you think Iraq is in better shape now than before the war?

Do you think the Iraqis like us?

Were you shocked to discover that Americans were torturing Iraqis in the same prison where Saddam tortured them?

Do you think these insurgents are a result of our invasion?

We're borrowing money from China to try to keep our government afloat. Does that seem like sound fiscal policy?

Do you think religion should now be part of science teaching, as do many Republicans? You know, so it will teach that man, dinosaurs and the eroded Grand Canyon were all created by God 6,000 or so years ago?

And so forth. Watch how they decide to stop talking politics with you.

Do you think the invasion and occupation of Iraq has made America safer from terrorism? (If they start talking about fighting terrorists "over there" rather than "here," well that raises the question of whether the Americantroops are considered American victims or not. And by the way, were there any terrorists in Iraq before the war? Any insurgents?)

56. I actually do something like that
For several years I raised money for Planned Parenthood in Greenwich, CT, an extremely wealthy town. I tell ordinary repubs that I can understand the Greenwich people voting republican; after all, they are the super rich and it is in their best interests. You, however, I say to them, are not in their club. They don't WANT you in their club. But they are real happy to have you vote for THEIR self interest, even if it against YOURS. They laugh all the way to the bank.

It's a pretty devastating line to use against smug repubs.

50. You might hit them with their "president's" performance on these issues
which are dear to repukelican hearts: First, government expansion and spending. The "Department of Homeland Security" is the largest expansion of the federal government since at least LBJ. Golly, way to "get the government out of our lives", guys!

Spending? This administration spends like a drunken sailor. Of course, that's understandable--it's run by a drunken Texas Air National Guard alum. Which, of course, will bring you to the subject of Junior's noble service to our country... Repukelicans love the military, right? So they must have high respect for those who serve, right? Guess that's why they called the 37-year Marine Corps veteran (Murtha) a "coward". Gee, I feel so much safer with a REAL military man like Dick Cheney in charge!

Then there's immigration. Forget for a moment any sympathy you may have for the immigrants themselves: the repukelican voters want those suckers OUT of our country. Gosh, Georgie sure is doing a good job of enforcing immigration laws, isn't he? We needn't worry about some workers who're paid "under the table" taking all the jobs, need we?

I'm sure these two lawyers are firmly against the horrible plague of personal injury and other lawsuits! Casually bring up Jerry Falwell's new pledge to sue everyone who doesn't agree with him. And be sure to show the proper outrage against hurricane victims (in St. Bernard Parish, LA, right next to New Orleans--they were completely flooded, and there was OIL in THEIR floodwater) vowing to file personal injury suits against that nice oil company Murphy Oil. (It was Murphy Oil which poorly maintained its storage tanks, and that's what led to the oil leaking into the floodwaters and ending up in people's homes.) How dare those sleazy, low class, dirty, untermensch St. Bernard plaintiffs seek to take money from poor Murphy Oil! Then be sure to point out that St. Bernard is (or rather, was) a largely white area in which the voters just about ALL were staunch republican Bush supporters.

Or have it printed out and ready to pull out of your pocket ~ it's doubtful they've ever seen Bush's REAL war on terror! In your other pocket of course, should be the standard recruitment forms.

Oh, and I would draw their attention particularly to the dead children killed by US bombs at the wedding party and ask them to imagine, if they would, their own reaction should an invading force in this country, 'liberate' a few of the guests around them right now.
