UGH! Greensboro NC News and Record Columnist is a SHILL for the RW.
What a remarkable story today by Allison Perkins, "Bush grieves with family of slain Marine."

The president and first lady met with Greensboro Marine Andrew Russoli's father and stepmother Monday in Mongolia, where Roland and Sarah Russoli work.

Bush and the Russolis share the conviction that the war in Iraq will result in important achievements.

"People will look back on this generation and say they brought democracy to the Middle East," Roland Russoli quoted the president as saying to him. "I know we're doing the right thing over there. I hate that people have to die. But I don't have to tell you that."

Roland Russoli described Bush's warmth and tenderness in a completely private and previously unpublicized meeting with parents who are mourning their loss but proud of their son's devotion to a cause he believed in.

I can't help contrasting this scene with the publicity-seeking antics of Cindy Sheehan.

People who insist the war is a failure and a waste should understand two things:
First, that is a poisonous sentiment to the men and women who are serving there, and to their families. The only thing worse than the sacrifices they're making is the idea that it's for nothing.

Second, it's much too early to declare the war a success or failure. Sometimes, judgments of this kind take many years to make with clarity -- if that's ever possible.

2. I just wish those saying there are successes could list at least one
that is true, factually based, with any longlasting impact that will not be destroyed once US is out, and demonstrated with pictures or films...

Really? What planet have you been living on?

Remember this?

What I find amazing is the tremendous amount of foot-dragging these irrational lemmings undertake to cling to their tenuous grip on reality.

There have been many, many lies that have been refuted ad nauseum, but that doesn't seem to invalidate the war for this group.

There were the lies by this administration; one after another excuse for invading a sovereign nation unprovoked. All refuted, but still being used by many of this group of rockheads as a reasonable explanation for a pre-emptive war.

There are continued lies spewed by this administration about the progress, actions and goals in Iraq. Many refuted/disputed, but still a source of rationale for being involved in this illegitimate war.

Now, those who aren't still adhering to these various partisan lies are spouting this garbage: 'well, however we got there, we are there and need to stay.' Is that so? Why is that exactly? Because we don't want to look like idiots for making one of the biggest political/military blunders in world history? Newsflash: too late now, Chucko. Pride? Who could have any sense of pride about a war which was undertaken in the name of greed, revenge or just plain stupidity? Two wrongs make a right, right? Iraq would suffer civil war and endless instability if we leave. Sure would. It would look a lot like it does now without all the roadside bombings and American military people parts all over the street.

Get with the program Goopers. This war is wrong, and staying in Iraq longer will not make it any more right, it won't make it any safer, it won't make it anymore democratic, it won't make the middle east more receptive to westerners and it won't bring back those who have already died for nothing. In fact, all the opposite will come to pass, if we don't have the courage to admit this was a mistake and bring our boys (& girls) home now!
