Congressman (Republican stooge),
I write to you to express my concern over the Bush administration's pursuit to erode our civil rights, specifically illustrated in the case of Jose Padilla. As you may know, Jose Padilla, an American citizen, has been held without charge for over three years in military detention over the claims that he was planning to detonate a "dirty bomb" in a major metropolitan area. Despite producing no evidence to the claim of Mr. Padilla's "combative" status, the federal government has kept Mr. Padilla in custody, forbidding him access to legal counsel, arraignment and trial. This act effectively suspended the writ of habeas corpus for Mr. Padilla. One could infer that this is a test to suspend the writ of habeas corpus for every American citizen. This appears to be an exercise of executive power based upon a convenient reason according to an individual in our government, absent of judicial restraint and negligent of Constitutional protections from governmental abuse of power.
This has been an ongoing legal battle that has drawn forth my ire in view of the Bush administration's reckless disregard for the Constitutional protections that members of the highest levels of public service are sworn to protect and defend.
So I ask you, as my Congressional representative, where do you stand on this issue?
Sincerely yours,
Ozymandius
