I'm not referring to discussion of Hillary Clinton.

I'm talking about the use of her first name in news stories.

Her name should be linked to her title. Like .... oh .... I don't know. How about maybe ....... mmmmm .......... "Mrs. Clinton" ...... or maybe ........ uh ...... "Senator Clinton".

I know this may be petty bullshit to some, but I find it to be both terrible manners and just plain disrespectful to refer to a US Senator as if she were some rock singer or cartoon character.

I'm not a supporter of a run by her for president. I like her just fine where she is .... in the Senate. But that's the not the point of this post.

In addition to every shithead pundit in the world predicting her win in the Democratic primary (a primary for which NO ONE has any firm idea who will actually run), they continue to disrespectfully refer to her by her first name.

Why does no one refer to the (sic) President as "George". Or to his shithead sidekick as "Dick".

But Secretary of State Rice is often referred to as "Condi". Even when the white house was pushing her as "Dr. Rice" the Condi moniker stuck.

I don't recall Golda Meir called Goldie. Margaret Thatcher, as I recall, would be unknown if referred to as Meg.

So why is it now okay to call Senator Clinton "Hillary"?

As I said, this may be a petty thing, but this guy gets pissed off about it.

Show some fucking respect, you mediamotherfuckers.

1. Well, let's see... we call Lieberman Holy Joe
and Hillary, whether you love her or loath her, is usually referred to by her first name.

As to Golda Meir, she was always "Golda" to us.

2. Remember
I like Ike? :hide:

I agree it seems disrespectful, but if she winds up pulling a rabbit out of her hat and gets nominated, the name recognition won't hurt. Actually, come to think about it, it won't help either depending on who you're talking to.

And for the record, I remember Margaret Thatcher being referred to as Maggie.

8. I would never vote for a candidate
who had so little self-respect that she campaigned under her first name.

But then I'm not going to vote for Clinton no matter what she calls herself.

5. I seem to recall that Margaret Thatcher
was known as "Maggie". Li'l Georgie's name of course is "Chimpy". Cheney will always be a Dick to me.

Actually I think Hillary's first name is used to distinguish her from her husband, though that's probably really unfair. Agree with you about Condi.

6. While I fully agree in principle
I remember Margaret Thatcher was called Mad Maggie by everybody who had to work hard for a living. People who wore suits and kept their hands clean liked her a lot better and called her Iron Maggie.

Calling any public figure by his or her first name is demeaning. I join you in wanting to slap the shit out of all those perky blow-dried bobbleheads on the news who do it.

9. The media DOES call Cheney "vice president...."
"Senator Clinton" or "Mrs. Clinton" would distinguish Hillary Clinton from her husband.

10. You are right about one thing for certain...
Nobody knows who is going to be in the primary and none of us know who would win the primary. If Hillary can win the Democratic primary, I will support her. If Warner wins, I will support him. It's not that big of a deal to me.

11. If she gets elected they won't call her Hillary or else she will be such
a good pres that they will call her lovingly Hillary as we sometimes refer to Lincoln as Old Abe. I think it is a sign of respect that they call her Hillary. Makes her like a close friend or someone you would like to have a beer with.
