Repukes look to exploit tragedy, capture N.O. mayoralty
Major :puke: alert!

http://www.wwltv.com/local/stories/WWL112005gop.7d098b6f.html

Republicans already have a declared candidate, former New Orleans City Councilwoman Peggy Wilson, to challenge incumbent Democrat Ray Nagin.

Wilson is putting together a campaign team that includes political consultant Roy Fletcher. She tested out a campaign speech at a recent meeting of the Republican State Central Committee, where she stressed that New Orleans wants to rebuild the levees but doesn't want "a federal bailout."

Wilson slammed Governor Kathleen Blanco's special session proposals, among them the tax breaks to bring back businesses, as too little. She, instead, proposes tax-free zones.

The post-Hurricane Katrina demographics of New Orleans give Republicans the idea that victory just might be possible in the traditionally overwhelmingly Democratic Crescent City. Since the storm, Republican State Central Committee member John Musser says there's a much higher percentage of Republicans in Orleans Parish.

Talking points:

1) Peggy Wilson is a prissy, privileged little dunce who would not even be a shoo-in to defeat King Dumbass** on Celebrity Jeopardy! Her campaign slogan should be: "Vote for Wilson! Put N.O. Out Of Its Misery!", 'cause she'd be the last mayor the city would ever have. :scared:

2) Somebody better get to work pronto on finding evacuees who do intend to return someday and making sure they are able to vote absentee. A logical choice would be ACORN, the well-known grassroots activist group, which maintains a large national office in the city that they hopefully will reoccupy in the next few weeks. After all, if rich repukes can vote absentee at the Hawai'i vacation homes they haven't occupied by early Nov., why shouldn't poor, mostly black Dems be able to... oh, right. :sarcasm:

3) If all else fails, DUers and other like-minded progressives might consider squatting places in the harder-hit areas down there in advance of the registration deadline. Classic N.O. neighborhoods like Gert Town could be joined by "Skinner Town"!

4) Yes, Nagin is a DINO, an ex-repuke in fact, but his bitter experience with King Dumbass**, horse's ass Brown et al. in the storm's aftermath makes it unlikely he will return to the dark side.

1. This one quote from her is ironic:

Doesn't want a federal bailout? Wasn't that the main REASON for why NOLA got as fucked up as it did in the aftermath? Is Brownie working on her campaign? Sounds like she is soliciting his help.
