The Case Against the Press is Solid
The Case Against the Press is Solid
November 20th, 2005

It’s no small secret the MSM has been in bed with the Bush administration. I’ve written here in the recent past that things could have been different, had the MSM done it’s job. But here we sit under the administration of Worse Than Watergate and one of the great hero’s of Watergate has fallen from his pedestal. The truth revealed early last week, that Bob Woodward “learned two years ago from a government official that Wilson was a CIA agent,” is a huge “black mark for media.”

Joan Vennochi writes in the Boston Globe today that, “The case against Scooter Libby is up in the air, but the case against the press is solid.”

Special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald indicted I. Lewis ‘’Scooter” Libby Jr. on criminal charges, including obstruction of justice, making a false statement and perjury in the CIA leak investigation. The press indicted itself on grounds of coziness, self-interest, and dishonesty.

While Judith ‘Miller is ‘’Miss Run Amok,”‘ Bob Woodward says Vennochi is “a media bigfoot.” “They both let their newspapers down, and readers, too.”

1. Anyone who does not realize that big media is part of the same corporate

cronyism as big oil, big pharma, etc is not living in the real world.
They are all in bed with the Bush adinistration, and have a ve$ted interest in keeping the lies going.
It is the exception, not the rule, when the truth comes out.

The press hid the truth about Bush as far back as before the 2000 selection..and has continued to do so ever since.

2. i heard Barney Frank speak last week
i agree with most positions Barney has on the issues ...

a guy in the audience stood up during the Q&A and asked him about the use of white phosphorus in Fallujah ... Frank said he hadn't heard anything about it and asked what the guy's source of information was ...

the guy said he read an article on the internet ...

Frank said: "oh, then i'm not interested ... the internet is full of rumors that just keep getting passed around"

then the guy said the article was based on a report done on Italian TV ... Frank went for a cheap laugh and said he didn't watch Italian TV ...

i tried to ask a question but did not get recognized ... the question would have been to the effect of asking him what's so great about America's MSM ... they did nothing but parrot the administration's talking points leading up to the war ... our MSM has been totally centralized by a wealthy, powerful few ... the integrity of the press as a fourth estate has been destroyed ...

the internet certainly is filled with garbage ... but there is no better, freer source to provide access to good information ... like any other source, you have to check and double check what you're reading ... but to put blind faith in mass media just because it is "corporate and commercial" is nonsense ... and to dismiss the internet with the blanket statement that Frank used is also nonsense ...

what we all do here on DU and other online sites is important ... we are part of the democratic discourse and the national dialog ... we are about informing, debating and debunking the great issues of the day ... these days, you just don't get much truth from TV's talking heads or from big newspapers like the LA Times that fires a top notch journalist like Robert Scheer because they are "going in a different direction" ...

oh, btw, after being uncovered on Democracy Now and being discussed across the web on sites like DU, the MSM finally picked up the story ... i sent all the documentation i could find about the US use of white phosphorus to Frank's office ... i didn't hear back from him and don't expect to ...

4. You make a great point
Folks who don't blog just don't get it. My sister told me she couldn't believe I was depending so much on what I learn on the internet. Then she went on to talk about something she had read in Newsweek. I said I read that too - online. She is a real penny pincher so I added that I was surprised she was still paying for Newsweek when she could just read it online. The look on her face was priceless. I could tell she had not surfed the net enough to realize there is real hard news here, not just unsubstantiated blog sites.

7. Can't Print or Save Article--Pisses Me Off
This asshole website will not allow you to save OR print the article, the same way you cannot save Daily Kos. Bye-bye, "Democratic" Daily--I will never read you again!

Can anybody post the complete article, so people can print and really take time reading it?
